100% Design South Africa, the largest curated exhibition platform for high-end contemporary design on the continent, is taking place alongside Decorex Joburg from 9 to 13 August 2017. More than just another decor and design show, 100% Design SA brings together the latest design trends and premium exhibitors into a tactile and immersive experience. Hosted at Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg, here’re five reasons as to why you shouldn’t miss this year’s highly anticipated show.

1. We Are Joburg (Above)

Condé Nast House & Garden partners with this all-star exhibition showcasing works by designers who have contributed to the city’s distinctive Afro-urban aesthetic. There will be both new and classic pieces presented by names such as Tonic, Mia Widlake, Brak Furniture, Mezzanine, Julia Day of Generation and many more. ‘We’re exploring how all their individual styles are unified by a confidence that is strikingly contemporary and unashamedly bold,’ says 100% Design SA programme director Cathy O’Clery.

2. Fabric and Wallpaper Gallery

A new attraction, expect visually rich displays of ranges by 16 local and international houses, all in a nature-inspired palette of greens and blues curated by Cathy.

3. Feature Designer Gregor Jenkin

Following on from previous years’ feature designers, Gregor Jenkin takes centre stage at the show, where he’ll be revealing a new body of work. An architect by training, and driven by ‘the physical act of creation and manufacture’ rather than design for design’s sake, he’s forged a reputation as one of the country’s foremost artisans with his iconic, widely exported furniture and collaborative pieces.

4. Seed to Seat

See the results unveiled of this visionary project that has sustainability at its heart. Following similar undertakings around the world, the American Hardwood Export Council commissioned seven SA furniture designers, including Laurie Wiid van Heerden and James Mudge, to prototype a signature chair using hardwood.

5. New on Show

Discover dozens of new exhibitors showcasing their work among more recognised names. Catch your breath (and edit your Instas) at the buzzy central 100% Design SA Café, in collaboration with David Krynauw.
