Steeped in a history dating back to 1692 and located in the foothills of the Jonkershoek Valley, just minutes from the historic town of Stellenbosch, Lanzerac is a 325-year-old wine estate synonymous with old-world charm and rich Cape heritage.

Part of the brand’s Heritage range, a premium selection of four wines, the Lanzerac Mrs English Chardonnay 2016 is a reflection of the elegance and sophistication of its namesake, Mrs Elizabeth Katherina English. Mrs English, who purchased the property in 1914, is believed to have bottled the first Lanzerac wine from grapes cultivated on the Estate.

Only French Oak barrels were used for fermentation, while weekly bâtonnage was done throughout the 11-month barrel-maturation process, resulting in a wine both subtle and elegant with a steely core. Pick up fresh flavours such as grapefruit and marmalade and vanilla undertones. Extended lees contact adds texture and richness, resulting in a wine that is subtle and refined. The 2016 vintage is limited to 4 800 individually numbered bottles, and although the current release vintage is ready to enjoy now, it will reach its full drinking potential if left to age for a further 10 years.

Mrs English Chardonnay 2016 is the perfect wine partner for decadent foods such as vichyssoise, fresh crab or parsley and lemon crayfish. It also partners beautifully with a velvety, baked lemon cheesecake.

Available only from the Lanzerac tasting room at R450 per bottle. Visit the estate at lanzerac.co.za.
