1. In the Kitchen (above) This open farm-style kitchen fireplace creates an inviting atmosphere, making the kitchen a social

space in which to share meals.

Where to get it Create a similar look with customised ‘granite cobblers’ that have the appearance of stone bricks and combine with a chunky slab of granite for the lintel. Both are available through Natural Stone Warehouse.

2. In the Living Room

This all-white fireplace with subtle classical details blends into the surrounding white walls, much like the cabinetry. By contrasting it with pops of colour, pattern and modern art, the look becomes fresh and contemporary.

Where to get it Vasco Henriques are the experts in carved-stone fireplace surrounds – have yours customised

to fit a specific space.

3. In the Entrance Hall

A fireplace with a flue suspended from the ceiling is an effective way of creating a focal point in an open space.

Where to get it This is the ‘Olden’ fireplace by Calore. The base is available with a black or white enamel finish and the unit is fitted with an electrically operated rise-and-fall system for the all-round glass screen.

4. In the Bedroom

Having a fireplace in your bedroom is the ultimate winter luxury. Make sure that the design you choose draws properly to guarantee safety and avoid stuffiness while you sleep.

Where to get it This stone-cladding frames the fireplace, creating a feature wall in the space. For a similar product, try the ‘Nottingham Stone’ from Rockwood.

5. In the Bathroom

Although ultra-glamorous, a marble-clad bathroom can be very cold, especially in winter – turn up the heat with a built-in gas fixture with a glass cover for added safety. Where to get it Try the Heat & Glo ‘SL550’ gas fireplace, available through Premier Fires.

6. On the Terrace

Give your outside space Mediterranean appeal with a rustic white-plastered fireplace. Be sure to include covered wood storage to protect it from the elements.

Where to get it Contact Kritzinger Architects who specialise in this type of design.

7. In a Garden

Demarcate a zone for an outdoor lounge by tiling a section of your lawn. Include a fireplace as the focal point to create a space that you can enjoy all year round. To maximise design efficiency, consider installing a double-sided fireplace – one that is also accessible from inside and uses the same chimney.
