Extra Ordinary is a special exhibition celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Southern Guild. It’s on until 16 April in Cape Town’s Silo District at the V&A Waterfront. So there’s still time to go and see this stunning exhibition that includes furniture, lighting, sculpture and jewellery.

The Southern Guild, renowned for exhibiting collectable, limited-edition South African designs, commissioned emerging as well as established designers outside of Southern Guild’s core stable for this exhibition. The featured artists include fashion designer Rich Mnisi, ceramic artists Zizipho Poswa and Madoda Fani, jewellery designers Philipa Green and Ida Elsje, sculptors Daniella Mooney and Stanislaw Trzebinski, and newcomers such as 3D illustrator Ferdi B.

The gallery invited the artists to produce exploratory new work that crosses over into other disciplines, materials or technologies. Julian McGowan, co-founder of The Guild Group says they encouraged the designers to get out of their comfort zone, by thinking differently about themselves and their work. ‘The result for each designer is a piece that springboards a new body of work.’
