Iconic South African Artist, Athi-Patra-Ruga will be showcasing his latest and some rarely seen works in his first major UK solo exhibition at Somerset House from October 2018.
As part of the Charles Russell Speechlys Terrace Rooms Series, Athi will showcase three of his recent series of works together for the first time, creating a surreal, mythical utopia inhabited by extraordinary characters. Showcasing his diverse artistic mediums, the exhibition immerses visitors in Athi’s vibrant world – an allegory of post-apartheid political, cultural and social systems, and a shimmering vision of a more humanist future.

The Charles Russell Speechlys Terrace Rooms Series is a new series of free and accessible exhibitions run by Somerset House that will share the work of living artists with the public in an accessible space.
Speaking to Condé Nast House & Garden SA earlier this year Athi said, ‘I’m inspired by a drive that I’ve always had, of telling stories that place me, and my allies in the centre of the modernist exercise and its evidently exclusionary tales.’
The Free exhibition will be held in the South Wing, Terrace Rooms of Somerset House from the 4th of October 2018 to the 7th of January 2019. Specific details follow.
Mon, Tue, Sat & Sun 10.00 – 18.00
