Goss It’s Good

Fine jewellery purveyor Kirsten Goss has opened her new flagship store at the V&A Silo District. Much anticipated, as with all new pursuits in Cape Town’s new buzz district, the ultra modish space is both futuristic and sophisticated with interchangeable display installations and innovative lighting applications. Aimed not to simply keep things interesting and lighthearted, but aimed to thrill!

The product offering is a showcase of the acclaimed best-sellers, along with one-of-a-kind luxe pieces. Launching too is the hotly anticipated Diamond Condition and Engagement Series, a collection of precious engagement and special occasion rings that continue the brand’s ethos that ‘diamonds are best served bravely’.

After studying in Stellenbosch and receiving experience abroad, Kirsten started her eponymous label in the UK, where she opened her first flagship in 2005. Since returning to South Africa, she has opened stores in Cape Town, Jo’burg and Durban. And now, in the brutalist yet magical Silo District. And she’s pulled out all the stops.

Kirsten Goss jewellery has received celebrity popularity from fashion icons Sarah Jessica Parker and Rosamund Pike, not to mention personally designed pieces for Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding. Each item is hand finished and meticulously laboured until perfect. Playful, elegant and contemporary, featuring bold colour and organic lines, it’s designed for the sexy, modern and ever-stylish woman.

The new store celebrates Kirsten’s fresh, irreverent approach to fine jewellery and design. Wanting to create something revolutionary, she drew inspiration from 80s North Korea, Japanese night clubs, Jeff Koons, Willy Wonka and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. It had to be a space that challenged the world of stuffy fine jewellery – you’ll not see a stick of brass, wood or velvet in sight.

Teaming up with Johannesburg-based HK Studio, and working closely with Cape Town-based master craftsman and expert shop-fitter Carlos La of Carlos La Woodwork, the shop reveals never-before-seen production techniques and materials such as Corian and fused glass. The Silo District as a whole will be vibrant and luxurious, a world-class destination for local and international visitors alike, boasting an array of high-end retail stores, restaurants, luxury hotels, office and residential spaces, not to mention the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA). And the Kirsten Goss flagship fits right in.
