Home Office

New global trend report reveals 82% of South Africans believe working from home would improve their productivity. When it comes to the working environment, people in South Africa value home comforts over having someone to talk to. Over a third wish they could work from home five days a week. This desire follows an emerging Western trend of embracing your home as the perfect working environment, with global research revealing the widespread emotional and financial benefits of doing so.

Revealed as part of a global trend report by leading paint brand, Dulux, the findings also highlight that workers could save themselves an estimated R123 282.73 a year if they traded in their office and worked from home, allowing them to avoid the expenses of their daily commute and office-appropriate attire. Interestingly, more than half of the population produces their most impressive written work from their at-home study, further highlighting the benefits of adopting a ‘work from home’ lifestyle. The same is true when it comes to communicating effectively and having a productive conversation.

The research findings from Dulux follow the announcement of its annual trend forecast, Colour Futures, which depicts key trends for the year ahead and one true Colour of the Year, ‘Steel Symphony 2’. A key trend for 2017, ‘The Working Home’ embodies the increasing popularity of work-friendly living spaces. Predicted by a team of international design visionaries who scour the globe annually to identify such trends in people’s lives, Nonkululeko Mcunu, Dulux Brand Manager comments, ‘Here at Dulux, we work closely with design experts to understand the ways in which people use their homes and have seen the growth of “The Working Home” trend develop as our economy sees the boundaries between life and work constantly blur.

‘Our new colour palette for 2017 features cool, calming tones for focus and concentration, along with warmer, brighter colours for energy. So whether you like to take your laptop to the kitchen, or settle down to work from your sofa, you can be comfortable, relaxed and focused when working from home.’
