Trevor Stuurman. This is one South African artist’s name, you should know. A name that is synonymous with African excellence and one that is on supermodel Naomi Campbell’s contact list. CNN has described this prolific African talent as a creative and cultural force. Trevor Stuurman is one of South Africa’s most loved multi-media visual artists. He is soft-spoken but his work speaks loud and is equally powerful. Fresh from speaking at the prestigious Viva-Technology conference in Paris two days ago – where he spoke on Africa, his visual storytelling journey, and the impact of technology – the creative entrepreneur takes some time to share some of his favourite things with us.

If you could visit one hotel, it should be…

The Majlis in Lamu Island, Kenya. It’s absolutely breathtaking.

The most inspiring city in the world is…

Without a doubt, Johannesburg, the city of Gold. There is no place like Joburg City it’s alive, it’s vibrant and it’s home.

My favourite local designers are

Local fashion designers, Rich Mnisi and Marriane Fassler.

The one book I could read over and over again is

A book on Malian photographer, ”Malick Sidibé – Mali Twist’.  I’m inspired by his work.

The one scent I can’t live without is…

The Noir 29, by Le Labo. I am a huge fan of Le Labo fragrances and their candles, I have them all over my home.

My ultimate home accessory is…

The Tutu Pendant Light 2.0 by Mash.T Design Studio’s Thabisa Mjo. It’s simply iconic.

The Instagrammer to follow is…

The insanely talented, Kenyan photographer, Osborne Macharia. I have high respect for him and his work.

On my coffee table, you will find…

A bowl of fresh fruit and the latest editions of some of my favourite magazines. (We are sure one of them is the latest issue of Condé Nast House & Garden magazine. wink. wink)

My favourite drink is

Absolut Lime & Gin.

The best advice I ever took…

Is to remain the humble and respectful person my mother raised me to be.

The one event that changed the trajectory of my life…

Was winning the Elle Style Reporter award back in 2012. This is where it all began, it’s been surreal, sublime and has had its challenges of course, but definitely life-changing.
