Gavin Rajah & @Home Collaborate

The second Gavin Rajah and @Home limited homeware collection was launched in stores on March 22nd. The Japan-inspired collection titled Geisha and Koi follows Pret A Vivre (ready to live), their previous collaboration that featured in stores in November 2017.

Many items and features have been made by local artisans, for example, the beading on the cushions which were hand sewn by skilled South African women and the designs have been locally manufactured and hand-embroidered. The new home couture collection features Gavin’s iconic geometric quilting, embroidery and beading, creating rich, intriguing textures and a sense of luxury.

While opulence comes as a standard for Gavin Rajah, this collection pulls through a new sense of refinement and tradition with his choice of premium fabrics, and the use of traditional Japanese motifs such as waves, clouds, fans and the mystical koi fish. The fabrics have been selected not only for beauty but, as Rajah points out, ‘Because they breathe, wear well, sleep well and travel well. The home- and sleepwear in effect straddle all modes of living, they would be as appropriate to lounge around your living spaces as they would be on a long-haul flight, or even for a stroll along the beach.’

Rajah explains that the apparel has been designed with both comfort and chic in mind. ‘Think of a kimono silhouette,” he says. “There is that impression of simplicity combined with elegance, of comfort entwined with luxury.’ The collection also includes massage oil candle fragrances inspired by Gavin’s love of travel. Once melted, the wax, which is made from 100% soy wax and healing essential oils, can be used as a luxurious, soothing massage oil. The scents include Geisha, Wanderlust, La Belle Époque and Koi.
