YSWARA opens Morocco-inspired flagship tea store at the Cosmopolitan in Maboneng

Luxury South African tea brand YSWARA, known for its exquisitely packaged and ethically-sourced African tea blends, has opened its quintessentially chic flagship tea room at the Cosmopolitan in Maboneng, inspired by Moroccan tea houses.

Designed in collaboration with Mia Widlake of Studio 19, the tea room is an ode to its African genesis. Decorated in the signature YSWARA rose gold and desert pink colours, with copper lamp shades and intricate latticing on the windows, the tea room provides a hidden sanctuary amidst the bustle of central Jo’burg. The Cosmopolitan, a recently and sensitively restored heritage building in Maboneng, is the ideal location to house a brand that is equally as passionate about its African roots. Together they tell a unique story.

‘The aesthetic inspiration comes from a broader desire to create an YSWARA universe within which the store fits,’ says YSWARA founder Swaady Martin. ‘Our decor reflects our Pan-African spirit with inspiration from all parts of Africa: Moroccan-inspired tearoom, Coptic crosses from Ethiopia, totem lamps inspired by West and Central Africa. Every detail has meaning.’

Browse the collection of luxury teas, infusions and tea time accessories. Sourced, blended and curated by African tastemakers, produced with the farmer and community in mind, it’s a calming and zen-like experience in a beautifully designed space.

YSWARA Tea Room is on the ground floor of The Cosmopolitan, corner of Commissioner & Albrecht Streets, Maboneng. For more information visit
