The Calitzdorp Succulent Society, an organisation that assists with the conservation and preservation of succulents from the Klein Karoo with educational and promotional methods, will host the second annual Vetplantfees from the 22nd to the 24th of September in Calitzdorp.

Calitzdorp is a region where many succulents, endemic to South Africa, can be seen in its natural environment. The Vetplantfees (Succulent Festival) was launched in 2017 and is hosted by the Calitzdorp Succulent Society. The festival showcases many of South Africa’s beautiful and rare succulents together with succulents from all over the world.

The society is in the process of building a demonstration garden where they will showcase the succulents, offering visitors the opportunity to see these plants in one place.Visitors will also be able to immerse themselves in a range of other activities to discover the world of succulents.

Whether you live in Calitzdorp, Cape Town, George or Johannesburg you will see indigenous and rare succulents in their natural habitat, buy specimens not available in nurseries and get advice on how to propagate, grow and care for succulents in the garden.

The festival program will include:

Veld Walks led by local guides

A potted plant market hosted by growers

Educational talks by succulent experts

‘How To’ workshops

Original plant pots for sale

Succulent plant exhibition

Botanical art exhibition

A rare plant auction

Activities for children

Entrance to the festival is free. For further information about the festival, visit the website of the Calitzdorp Succulent Society at www.vetplant.co.za.
