The Penthouse on Burg was conceptualised and realised by owner Nicholas Garrett and Annie Hoffmann in collaboration with Cape Town-based design studios JesseJames, Atelier Interiors and Concreative Concrete Concepts. The dream was to convert a former office space into a luxury urban artist loft for the modern couple, all while paying respect to the heritage building’s features and its central city location. Combining masculine-retro industrial elements softened with beautiful tailor-made furniture, contemporary prints and market-sourced antique objets, Penthouse on Burg maximises one’s living experience.
‘Opposed to the idea of over-designed and uncomfortable spaces, our idea was to create a uniquely designed, yet seemingly effortless apartment,’ says Nicholas. ‘Our vision for a contemporary-cool, yet cozy and comfortable space was realised.’ With a keen interest in interior design and architecture, Nicholas and Annie turned to their global travels, hours on Pinterest and fondness for local design to materialise their vision.
The luxury penthouse offers visitors four storeys of living space, both indoor and outdoor. Located close to Green Market Square, its entertainment decks and balconies reveal unmatched views of the city; each room has been carefully crafted and decorated for comfort and design appreciation. ‘Key to our success in realising the design language was creating bespoke and unique furniture pieces,’ Nicholas continues. ‘The majority of the furniture pieces and joinery were custom-made by JesseJames, with additions from Dark Horse and Atelier Interiors.’
‘The walls are hung with artwork by Gabi-Lee, while the kitchen and industrial elements were all built by Concreative Concrete Concepts.’
Pieces that were not custom-made were meticulously sourced from antique shops, flea markets and boutique furniture stores, as well as from the owner’s personal collections accumulated over years of travel. Elegant and stylish without losing its own sense of comfort, the Penthouse on Burg is a design and lifestyle accomplishment.
The Penthouse on Burg is conceptualised as a fit-for-purpose space for the tourism market, as well as a unique event space or urban shoot location for the film and photographic industry. For more information or to rent out the space visit airbnb.com.
