Kim Kardashian wasn’t too thrilled about the $14 million Miami luxury condo that Kanye West bought her for Christmas, and so the rapper is now in the awkward position of having to pull out of the purchase. According to Page Six, the stunning 4,700-square-foot beachfront apartment recently returned to the market after West backed out of the deal, for which he laid down a $600,000 deposit.
He had originally bought it for Kardashian as a surprise after seeing it during Art Basel, but according to the report, the purchase is now a no-go; as a result, West will lose his six-figure deposit—but, thankfully, not a penny more. While reports point toward Kardashian’s discontent, West is spinning a different narrative, blaming his decision on “leaks” surrounding the sale. Insiders said that this reasoning doesn’t make sense, given that West was quite public about his purchase. He was hounded by paparazzi when he showed up at the “billionaire beach bunker” and even brought along an entourage and a film crew while checking out the property.
A rep for West said in response that none of those reasons mentioned are true. "When Kim and Kanye went to Miami to view the condo together after Christmas, Kim loved it but felt it was not private enough for them," said the rep. "They are now looking for a vacation home that is more secluded and offers much more privacy for their family.”
The unit, which sits in an 18-story high rise with tenants such as ex–Goldman Sachs chairman Lloyd Blankfein, billionaire Len Blavatnik, and sugar magnate José Fanjul Jr., featured four bedrooms and five-and-a-half bathrooms, with all the amenities one might expect from a super-luxe condo: a private fitness center, spa, pool, concierge, and underground parking. The unit that West purchased also boasted a wraparound terrace with views of the beach and the city.
Presently, the couple and their three (soon-to-be four) kids primarily reside in their Hidden Hills, California, home, which they renovated with the help of famed architect Axel Vervoordt and moved back into in December 2017.
