Yashna Balwanth Welcomes You To The Summer Issue of House & Garden SA
There is a peculiar sensation that overtakes us all when the calendar turns to December 1st. The holiday frenzy commences, last minute shopping becomes an everyday occurrence, and the surplus of food prepared for unexpected family members is neither frowned upon nor surprising. Many families choose to travel during this holiday as it's their only time off, while others make the most of the summer season at home with beach days and abundant braais. As this end-of-year scene unfolds before my eyes, I can't help but sit back and reflect on the year that's passed – from the dizzying highs to the extreme lows, from family losses to celebrations. Spending summer in the city is always a delightful experience for me.
For this particular issue, we opted to visit local bars for happy hour and explore a stunning home in Fresnaye that's all about art, breathtaking sea views, and entertainment. I also had the privilege of interviewing some of my favourite local chefs to get a glimpse of what they'll be serving up for their families this December and learn some of the secrets behind their sauces.
This year, it was essential for us to focus on design in Africa and celebrate the beauty that comes from within. Whether it's landscapers or hoteliers, interior designers, or architects, this year we honoured Africa's rich heritage and the awe-inspiring talent within our pages. For the following year, we hope to inspire more creatives to push the boundaries and celebrate their achievements.
And just like that, the reign of 2023 comes to a close, and it's time to begin a new chapter. I wish you all a safe and joyful holiday season and look forward to providing you with more content on beautiful homes, gardens, travel, and lifestyle in the coming year.
