In the spare room of Dominique O’Connor’s gracious Cape Town home, soothing sorbet colours combine with island-inspired comfort. White linen and a blue-printed Indian quilt dress the black wrought-iron four poster.

In Bantry Bay, designer Mario Rodrigues creates an artfully composed home through timeless but eclectic pieces. A tall bamboo chair from Cécile & Boyd’s in a guest room is complemented by equally graphic cushions in Silk & Cotton Company and Jim Thompson fabrics.

A rural setting outside Joburg is a suitably minimalist background for a home that pays homage to the modernist aesthetic. In the master bedroom the Eames chair moulded around the female form provides a focal point.

Charlotte Daneel’s Franschhoek home draws on the warm earthy tones of Africa. A symmetrically elegant tableau in the master bedroom plays with natural tones and country-inspired texture.

Beautiful views were the spring board for a beach escape that finds a blissful medium between natural beauty and bold lines. Tones of grey from floor to ceiling give the bedrooms a cool restful feel, further enhanced by the soft furnishings. Designers Emi Cavalieri and Daniela Priebatsch selected premium furniture brands such as De Padova and B+B Italia for their distinctive simplicity and sophistication.

Designer John Jacob layers subtle tones with fine finishes in a Joburg home. A rose-print fabric in the blue bedroom serves at the linking thread between antique Redoute roses framed en masse in églomisé mirror, a painting of an Indian Tree of Life and an Oriental floral vase. The canopied bed is true John Jacob and upholstered in Studio H, Tabby Linen. Along with neutral linens, it’s a tranquil respite.
