A Dubai Home of Timeless Ease by Amna Chaudhry Interiors
Drawing inspiration from Parisian apartments, New York brownstones and Mediterranean villas, this Dubai home by Amna Chaudhry Interiors balances historic character with contemporary warmth and craftsmanship.
A Home Rooted in Heritage and Modern Ease
In Dubai’s lush Green Community West, interior designer Amna Chaudhry, founder of Amna Chaudhry Interiors, has crafted a serene family home that feels worlds away from the city’s gleaming skyline. Drawing on Parisian apartments, New York brownstones, and Mediterranean villas, Amna and her husband, Ammar, transformed a Spanish Revival-style bungalow into a sanctuary of craftsmanship, calm, and lived-in beauty.
“This is our personal home,” Amna shares. “From the start, we were looking for a property with strong architectural bones that we could renovate and make our own.”
Location and Architectural Charm
The house sits within one of Dubai’s most desirable enclaves, a gated community of cobblestone streets, verdant parks, and wide, tree-lined avenues. Built in 2008, the home’s Spanish Revival roots provided the ideal canvas: a red-tiled roof, stucco façade, and arched loggia setting a warm, timeless tone. “The architecture already resonated with our aesthetic,” says Amna. “It had character, and that gave us freedom to modernise without losing soul.”
Design Influences: Paris, New York, and the Mediterranean
Inside, Amna layered European influences with a distinctly Middle Eastern sensibility. “I’ve always loved the timeless elegance of Parisian interiors and the character of New York brownstones,” she says. “But it also needed to feel appropriate for Dubai’s light and climate, so we looked to Mediterranean homes for inspiration; natural materials, gentle curves, and a soft, breathable palette.”
Key design decisions began with two statement choices: Breccia Capraia marble for the kitchen and an ILVE range whose antique finish set the tone for vintage references throughout. The result is a balanced blend of classical detailing and contemporary restraint.
Craftsmanship and Materiality
Executing Amna’s vision required an exacting level of craftsmanship rarely seen in Dubai’s residential market. “At the time, the design language we wanted was still uncommon here,” she recalls. “We had to train artisans in custom millwork, brass inlays, and the marble profiles I had designed.”
Every inch of the home reflects that attention to detail, from the brass-inlaid herringbone floors to the hand-finished wall mouldings. Even the black-and-white checkered foyer tiles were custom-made when the perfect option couldn’t be sourced. Through this process, Amna built a trusted network of craftspeople she continues to collaborate with today.
A Palette of Warmth and Calm
The colour story is deliberately restrained: creamy whites, soft beiges, and warm neutrals create a calming canvas punctuated by deeper tones of rust, navy, and terracotta. “I wanted the main living spaces to feel open and airy,” says Amna. “In contrast, the powder room and pantry use darker, moodier colours to evoke intimacy.”
In the kitchen, deep navy cabinetry contrasts beautifully with veined marble and brass fixtures, while elsewhere, the furnishings introduce tactile fabrics in linen, mohair, and boucle. The overall effect is gentle and timeless, a home that feels as graceful as it does grounded.
Beauty Meets Functionality
Form and function meet seamlessly in spaces designed for everyday family life. “I wanted a home that was both beautiful and lived-in,” Amna explains. Custom built-ins keep clutter at bay, while smart storage systems maintain the home’s sense of calm.
Durable natural materials, like marble, brass, and wood, were chosen to age gracefully and bear the marks of family life. “With two young children, practicality was essential,” she says. “Every choice needed to stand the test of time.”
Layout and Living
The single-storey home is surrounded by a wraparound garden, creating a constant dialogue between inside and out. During renovation, Amna’s team removed walls to open the plan and installed bifold glass doors that frame views of mature trees from every room.
A memorable discovery during construction revealed that the foyer’s ceiling concealed an extra seven feet of height. “Once we exposed it, the space transformed,” Amna says. “We raised the front doors and reclaimed the home’s true sense of scale. It completely changed the entry experience.”
Meet the Designer: Amna Chaudhry
A graduate of Parsons School of Design, Amna Chaudhry founded her namesake studio in Dubai with a focus on timeless interiors that combine global references with meticulous detailing. “This home was the start of it all,” she reflects. “It taught me the value of patience, of trusting the process, and of designing spaces that truly reflect the people who live in them.”
Today, Amna Chaudhry Interiors continues to work across residential and commercial projects in the UAE, with a signature aesthetic defined by architectural integrity, refined texture, and soulful restraint. amnachaudhryinteriors.com
