There is an understated confidence to this apartment in Muscat, Oman. Instead of relying on elaborate decoration, the 190-square-metre home lets carefully chosen materials, rich colour, and thoughtful craftsmanship do the talking.

Designed by Kate Kerdi Interiors, the residence proves that a restrained palette can still make a memorable statement.

The living, dining and kitchen areas flow together effortlessly, creating a contemporary space designed for both relaxed daily living and entertaining.

Originally from Latvia, designer Kate Kerdi has lived and worked across Europe, Asia and the Middle East, experiences that have shaped her layered yet adaptable approach to shaping interiors.

After relocating to Oman nearly a decade ago, she founded her own studio, finding inspiration in the country's appreciation for craftsmanship, natural materials, and thoughtful living.

Rich marble, custom furniture, and sculptural forms add depth and character to the apartment's expansive open-plan interior.

As part of a newly built development, the apartment offered the rare opportunity to begin with a completely blank canvas. Rather than filling the space with decorative excess, Kerdi focused on creating visual contrast through texture, proportion, and carefully placed moments of colour.

A striking burgundy marble island with an integrated dining table anchors the kitchen, turning the heart of the home into a bold yet elegant gathering space.

Soft beige walls and natural finishes establish a calm backdrop, while burgundy and caramel accents introduce warmth and character throughout the home.

Materiality sits at the heart of this project. Locally sourced Omani marble appears as both a functional and sculptural feature, most notably in the dramatic kitchen island that anchors the open-plan living space.

Sculptural seating and tactile finishes introduce depth and character while maintaining the home's refined atmosphere.

Velvet upholstery, timber detailing, and textured finishes soften the stone, ultimately creating a home that feels tactile as well as sophisticated.

The surrounding landscape also informed the design. Sandy-toned walls subtly echo the desert beyond, grounding the apartment in its location without leaning into obvious references.

A serene bedroom layered with soft textures, natural tones, and bespoke detailing creates a restful retreat within the Muscat apartment.

The result is a contemporary interior that feels internationally inspired while remaining deeply connected to Oman.

Designed with modern living in mind, the open-plan layout seamlessly combines the kitchen, dining and lounge areas, encouraging both relaxed daily routines and effortless entertaining.

Understated elegance defines the bedroom, where carefully selected materials and a restrained palette bring warmth and calm to the private space.

An integrated dining table extends directly from the marble island, turning the kitchen into the social heart of the home.

Bespoke craftsmanship plays a defining role in the apartment's identity. Around 95% of the furniture was custom designed and produced locally, allowing every piece to contribute to the overall vision.

Standout elements include sculptural checker-pattern armchairs upholstered in custom fabric and a statement sofa inspired by the refined elegance of classic luxury design, reimagined for a contemporary setting.

The lounging area balances generous proportions and a pair of custom checker-pattern armchairs introducing a graphic, sculptural element to this intimate area.

With one spacious bedroom and a flowing communal living area, the apartment embraces simplicity without sacrificing personality.

Every detail has been carefully considered, resulting in an interior that balances bold gestures with quiet restraint – an inviting home where timeless materials, thoughtful design, and local craftsmanship come together effortlessly.

The bespoke closet combines streamlined storage with refined detailing, reflecting the home's emphasis on craftsmanship and functionality.
