OSKLO Reimagines a Beverly Hills Classic with Modern Soul
Set high in Beverly Hills’ Trousdale Estates, this restored 1960s home by OSKLO blends mid-century geometry with modern restraint. Co-founders Arya and Michael Martin have re-envisioned the architecture’s clean lines through a palette of pale oak, limestone and velvet, crafting a warm, contemporary haven that connects California light with timeless design.
Love at First Sight
When Arya and Michael Martin first saw their 1966 George Varnum-built house, its sculptural post-and-beam form and panoramic views sealed their decision to purchase it. The duo set out to preserve its architectural pedigree while introducing their company, OSKLO’s, modern sensibility; a calm, tactile elegance rooted in natural materials.
Preserving Heritage, Elevating Craft
Original stonework and steel detailing were carefully retained. Newly designed walnut doors and limestone fireplaces honour the home’s history while refining its proportion and rhythm. Throughout, locally–crafted furniture pieces from OSKLO’s Trousdale Collection ground each room in quiet luxury.
A Dialogue of InfluencesItalian modern lighting, Hollywood Regency brasswork and British mid-century millwork merge in layered harmony. Icons such as Pierre Cardin and Arne Jacobsen inspired the silhouettes of sofas and screens, while vintage pieces by Jean Royère and Julian Schnabel lend art-world gravitas.
Material Warmth and Earthy Ease
The palette moves from creamy whites to sand and terracotta, balanced by travertine, white oak and soft plaster. Mohair, velvet and shearling upholstery invite texture and touch, creating continuity between interior calm and California landscape.
A Japanese-Inspired Garden Retreat
Drawing from their travels in Japan, the Martins introduced a minimalist courtyard planted with bonsai pines and moss-like grasses. The garden’s meditative order complements the home’s crisp geometry and frames uninterrupted views across the city.
Designed for Living
Situated entirely on one level, the 6 000-square-foot home opens fluidly from living room to pool terrace. Every element, from the marble-topped bar to the curved daybeds, reflects OSKLO’s belief that elegance should always feel effortless. osklola.com
