Emerging Designer Crafts a Serene, Sculptural Hong Kong Duplex
Shaped by an emerging Hong Kong designer whose client list already includes several Asian celebrities, this sensory apartment is a refined sanctuary of calm. Completed in just two months, the duplex pairs soft edges, tactile surfaces and carefully curated objects to create a home that feels both modern and deeply soothing. Every decision - palette, proportion, and lighting - was guided by balance and flow, forming a gentle cocoon suspended above Repulse Bay.
Clement C Studio: A Rising Force in Contemporary Asian Design
The project is the work of Clement C Studio, founded by designer Clement Cheng. From Hong Kong to Kuala Lumpur, Cheng has earned a fast-growing following among entrepreneurs and regional celebrities, including Malaysian actress Lin Minchen, model Elva Ni, and INNOTIER founder Juliana Lam. His work is defined by sculptural restraint, meticulous detailing and an instinctive sensitivity to materiality.
A Home Shaped by Flow, Balance and Quiet Rhythm
Overlooking Repulse Bay’s crescent-shaped shoreline and framed by green mountains, the duplex is designed as a continuous experience of movement and stillness. Rounded corners and flowing wall panels soften transitions, turning thresholds such as stair landings and corridor porches into intentional moments of pause. Generous wall space accommodates serene, sea-inspired artworks, while sculptural details in the panelling and the staircase create a rhythmic interplay of curves and shadows.
The archway linking the living and dining areas cuts through a main structural wall, acting as a graceful portal between calm zones. The staircase, meanwhile, becomes a sculptural feature in its own right - an elegant ascent from the living spaces below to the private bedrooms above.
A Warm, Modern Palette with Layered Tactility
Taupe, grey and bronze form the backbone of the home’s colour palette, striking a balance between warmth and contemporary refinement. Texture paint is used extensively, catching natural light throughout the day and creating a living backdrop for the owners’ sea-inspired art collection.
Craftsmanship is a constant theme. Full-body travertine basins in the bathrooms bring an artisanal weight, their organic silhouettes echoing the home’s gently curved forms. A notable material highlight is the wide application of wood-grain film across panels and built-in furniture - a technique common in Japan but used here for the first time by the studio. Durable, UV-resistant and aesthetically consistent, it delivers both practicality and visual cohesion.
Lighting as Sculptural Expression
Lighting plays a central role in the apartment’s sensory effect. A sculptural pendant anchors the main living area, while smaller fixtures guide circulation routes, casting soft shadows that animate the textured walls. Every light doubles as an artistic gesture, elevating even transitional spaces.
The Open Bar: A Statement of Elegance
Among Cheng’s favourite features is the open bar. The shelving and marble-topped counter were hand-designed to integrate seamlessly with the adjoining Poliform kitchen, creating a cohesive feature that adds sophistication and a subtle visual spark.
Layout: Flowing, Flexible, and Mountain-Embraced
Set across roughly 3,500 square feet (325 square metres), the duplex includes a balcony and flat roof edged by lush mountain views. The lower floor accommodates the living, dining and study areas, while the upper level houses the bedrooms.
A large sliding door allows the study to open into the living area for an airy, combined space - or close off for privacy when needed.
From sculptural furniture to the gentle interplay of curves and light, this Hong Kong apartment embodies a quiet, contemporary luxury - considered, calming and beautifully crafted.
