Time Out Market Cape Town Serves Up A Fresh Summer Menu
There is something about the arrival of summer in Cape Town that makes eating out feel like an occasion in itself. Long, sun-soaked afternoons give way to balmy evenings, spontaneous get-togethers become the norm, and meals are best enjoyed slowly, preferably with something cold to drink. At Time Out Market Cape Town, this seasonal shift has inspired a new summer menu, bringing together fresh ingredients, vibrant flavours and dishes designed for sharing.
Launched on 8 October and available until March 2027, the menu spans the Market’s collection of kitchens, offering everything from bright, seafood-led plates to comforting favourites with a playful twist. I visited the Market for the launch to sample some of the new additions, and what stood out was the variety: there is plenty to explore, whether you are after a light lunch, a leisurely afternoon of grazing or a more substantial dinner with friends.
Seafood takes centre stage in several of the new dishes. At Una Más Taqueria, the tuna ceviche pairs fresh tuna with pineapple and jalapeños, served with a crisp tostada. The combination brings together the sweetness of the fruit, a little heat and the freshness of the fish, making it a fitting choice for warmer weather. Sushiya offers another seafood highlight with its Yellowtail Jalapeño Roll, which combines yellowtail and avocado with ponzu for a fresh, flavourful bite.
For something lighter, NØSH CAFÉ’s smoked salmon salad brings grapefruit and pomegranate into the mix, adding a refreshing citrus note and bursts of sweetness. Meanwhile, How Bao Now takes line fish in a different direction with its fried line fish bao, served with Thai red curry. It is an appealing option for those who enjoy familiar ingredients reimagined through bolder, Asian-inspired flavours.
Of course, summer dining is rarely just about individual plates. Some of the best meals are built around a table of dishes to share, and Opá! Greek Street Food’s Mezze Platter is made for exactly that. Bringing together pitas, hummus, tzatziki, halloumi, dolmades and souvlaki, it offers a generous spread that encourages everyone to dig in. It is also an easy way to bring a little Mediterranean spirit to a Cape Town afternoon.
Pizza lovers should make their way to YARD, where the Williamsburg pizza combines spicy Italian sausage, ricotta and hot honey. The sweet heat of the honey adds an interesting contrast to the savoury toppings, giving this familiar favourite a distinctly modern edge. CARNE offers another hearty option with a beef sausage served alongside grilled corn and onion relish, delivering a combination of smoky, savoury flavours suited to a more substantial meal.
No summer menu would be complete without something sweet. At Kapoochka, the mango kulfi provides a cool, fruity finish, offering a welcome change of pace after the savoury dishes. Its tropical flavour feels particularly appropriate for Cape Town’s warmer months.
The appeal of Time Out Market Cape Town lies in the freedom to mix and match. With different kitchens under one roof, everyone can order according to their own tastes before gathering around the same table. It makes the Market a practical choice for groups with varied appetites, while the lively atmosphere, live music and seasonal activities add to the experience.
“Our chefs have had fun with this menu. They've worked with fresh, seasonal produce and created dishes that are lighter and full of flavour, which is exactly what people want to eat when the weather warms up. Every counter has something new, so it's worth coming back more than once to try it all,” says Russ Meyer, General Manager of Time Out Market Cape Town.
With its new summer menu available from October 2026 to March 2027, the Market offers another reason to make room for a meal out this season. Whether you arrive for a quick bite or settle in for an evening of sharing plates, there is something to suit the relaxed, sociable rhythm of a Cape Town summer.
