Rather than just pursuing dramatic reinvention, the design team chose a more subtle approach. Existing structures have largely been preserved, allowing the camp's original character to remain intact. This has resulted in a seamless evolution that feels both familiar and entirely refreshed.
At every turn, the interiors echo the surrounding bushveld. Organic forms, natural textures and earthy tones create an atmosphere of understated elegance. Layers of timber, stone, rattan, and woven materials are balanced by rich shades of ochre, terracotta and muted greens, blurring the line between indoors and out.
The redesign speaks to a broader movement in hospitality design – one that prioritises sensory experience over drama. Every surface invites touch, every space encourages pause, and every detail contributes to a feeling of calm immersion into nature.
One of the most notable additions is a new indoor dining space that offers a warm refuge during cooler evenings and summer rainstorms. Here, soft ambient lighting, handcrafted detailing, and double-sided fireplaces create an intimate atmosphere that feels more like a private residence than a safari lodge. Bespoke timber lighting installations and stained-glass accents introduce moments of artistry, while a newly integrated indoor bar serves as a sophisticated gathering space before and after dinner.
Wine lovers will find particular delight in the addition of a dedicated wine room. Rich green marble details, terracotta clay tiles and carefully curated displays showcase some of South Africa's finest vintages, transforming wine discovery into an experience in itself.
Outside, the introduction of a new boma creates another memorable setting for dining beneath the stars. While rooted in the traditional safari practice of gathering around a fire, the space has been subtly redefined through a contemporary design lens, balancing heritage and modernity with remarkable ease.
