There’s a new reason to slow down in Cape Town - and it smells like roasted lamb and fresh farmhouse bread. Tucked away in the leafy Upper Wynberg suburb, Palm House Boutique Hotel & Spa has launched Easy Sundays, a new lunch ritual that brings together refined comfort food, serene surroundings, and slow living in the best possible way.

Just minutes from the Constantia winelands and False Bay, Palm House has long been a hidden gem for locals and travelers alike. Now, its Palm Terrace restaurant becomes the stage for long, easygoing Sunday afternoons filled with generous food, estate wine, and the soft rustle of garden leaves.

Curated by chef Gregory Henderson, the Easy Sundays menu is an ode to tradition - with a Cape twist. The experience begins with bountiful sharing plates delivered to your table: think house-smoked trout pâté, baked brie and caramelised onion tartlets, and a heritage tomato and burrata salad that tastes like sunshine.

Next, a velvety roasted butternut and sage soup prepares the palate for the star attraction - a choice of slow-roasted cider pork belly or herb-rubbed chicken roast, both accompanied by all the right sides: seasonal, soulful, and made with meticulous attention to detail.

It’s a meal that invites time to stretch. Dessert arrives: a dark chocolate and fynbos honey mousse, a sweet and subtle nod to local ingredients. Each lunch includes a glass of Palm House estate wine, with guests encouraged to linger on the lawns, around the pool, or at the hotel’s handsome Bar 1920.

Whether you’re gathering family, catching up with friends, or simply seeking a reset before the week begins, Easy Sundays offers a space to breathe and indulge. And with Chef Henderson’s menu changing with the seasons, each visit brings something new to the table.

Lunch is R425 per person, including wine. Bookings are essential via www.palmhouse.co.za or WhatsApp on 076 487 2016.

Because on Sundays, the only thing better than a roast - is not having to make it yourself.
