Inside the hotel’s lighter, more considered rooms — and its evolving vision for African hospitality.
Taj Cape Town Unveils Its Refreshed Rooms — and a New Direction Across Africa
Taj Cape Town is entering a more contemporary moment. The landmark hotel has begun unveiling redesigned rooms and suites. A quiet but confident shift that brings a lighter touch to its interiors while preserving the hallmarks of the Taj name.
Heritage, Reinterpreted
The updated rooms draw from two sources: the brand’s Indian origins and the distinct urban landscape surrounding the hotel. The palette is more varied, gently layered, and noticeably airier. Throughout the spaces, bespoke wallpaper featuring Cape fynbos folds the city’s natural identity into the design language, a subtle thread carried through scatter cushions and soft furnishings. The effect is a grounded, place-specific interior that feels connected to both the building’s history and its setting. “Our exciting new look is in keeping with our award-winning international hotel brand and completes our hotel’s revitalisation,” says Mark Wernich, Cluster General Manager at Taj Cape Town. “While it is contemporary and up to date, it also honours where we have come from. We can’t wait for our guests to experience our new look.”
Beyond Cape Town: Taj’s Expanding African Landscape
The refresh at Taj Cape Town is part of a larger ambition by broadening its African footprint with a series of new wilderness properties in the Greater Kruger National Park; Taj Lion Kings Bush Lodge (now undergoing renovations), Taj Lion Kings River Lodge (opening early 2026) and Taj Lion Kings Hilltop Tented Camp (opening later in 2026) Each is being shaped with the same emphasis on authenticity, comfort, and a deep connection to place.
Looking Ahead
Plans are also underway for lodges in the Maasai Mara, Serengeti, Botswana, and Zambia, destinations where the landscape plays as important a role as the architecture itself. Their entry into these regions signals a renewed focus on slow travel, meaningful wildlife encounters, and hospitality that feels rooted rather than remote.
