Bonang’s House of BNG: A Toast to African Luxury & Legacy
Since its 2019 debut, The House of BNG has quickly become one of South Africa’s most iconic luxury brands - a sparkling symbol of style, celebration and proudly African craftsmanship.
Born in Stellenbosch - the heartland of South African winemaking - The House of BNG’s Brut Rosé is a delicate blend of 40% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay, 25% Pinotage and 5% Pinot Meunier. Crafted with intention, its vibrant character and elegant finish reflect both terroir and tenacity.
Created by Bonang Matheba, media powerhouse and entrepreneur affectionately dubbed South Africa’s "Champagne Queen," the brand has grown from a passion project into a nationally celebrated label. Since launch, BNG has been poured at some of the country’s most high-profile events - from President Cyril Ramaphosa’s inauguration to the Miss South Africa pageant.
"The House of BNG has always been my passion project," says Bonang. "Champagne is my favourite drink, so creating my own MCC was a dream come true. I'm thrilled by the brand's growth and our commitment to innovation."
This commitment shows in every release. Alongside the original Brut MCC, the portfolio now includes the luxurious Prestige Reserve MCC, launched at the SunMet, Africa’s richest horse race, and the forward-thinking Nectar range, one of the first premium sparkling wines on the continent to be sold in cans - a bold move that made bubbly more accessible while maintaining its elegance.
Bonang’s approach is grounded in quality. Instead of importing base wines or grapes, she chose to craft authentic MCCs using 100% South African grapes, working closely with Cape Wine Master Jeff Grier to ensure only the best fruit from Stellenbosch’s vineyards makes the cut. From blending to bubble size, Bonang remains hands-on with the production process, setting a new standard for celebrity-backed brands.
Her trailblazing journey recently marked a major milestone: she became the first Black woman to join the Cap Classique Producers Association, a historic achievement that further solidifies her place in South Africa’s wine landscape - and opens doors for others.
Equal parts glamour and grit, The House of BNG represents a new era for African luxury - one where tradition meets modernity, and local excellence leads the global conversation.
