Whether it’s the sleek integration of ocean views, the infusion of cultural influences, or the embrace of luxurious yet functional materials, each home demonstrates a unique approach to blending aesthetic beauty with practical living. The projects featured here, from the sweeping coastal retreats to urban penthouses, showcase how interior design can elevate and harmonise with the environment, offering both comfort and inspiration.

Wave Forms

This home, redesigned by interior design studio ARRCC, features a flowing, wave-inspired roof that visually connects with its oceanic and mountainous surroundings. The open-plan interior maximises natural light and frames breathtaking views, while a neutral material palette of light oak, exposed concrete, and Cape Granite creates a soothing atmosphere. Sculptural furniture and minimalist lighting enhance the space without competing with its natural beauty. A winding staircase links the two levels, with the upper floor dedicated to living areas and terraces, and the lower floor housing guest rooms and amenities. ARRCC’s thoughtful intervention transforms the home, deepening its connection to its locale.

Paradise Found

Interior designer Ian Hannay Robertson transformed a traditional home in Riebeek Kasteel, Western Cape, into a vibrant Middle Eastern and North African-inspired sanctuary. With a personal collection of global artefacts and treasures, the home blends eclectic influences, from West African textiles to Syrian furniture, creating an inviting and cosy atmosphere. The design celebrates both local craftsmanship and international finds, with a focus on storytelling through objects. The outdoor patio mirrors the interior’s eclectic style, offering a seamless space for summer entertaining in the charming, small town.

Set against Cape Town's iconic Lion’s Head, this high-rise penthouse combines sleek New York-inspired design with coastal living. The interior boasts panoramic ocean views, bespoke furniture, and a rich collection of African art. Designer Simone Hirsch emphasised a sophisticated color palette of neutrals accented by bold hues, allowing the artwork to shine. Materials like chrome, perspex, and raffia create a luxurious yet vibrant atmosphere. The home also reflects the owners' love for luxury and entertaining, featuring a Formula-one-inspired lounge and a garage filled with collectible memorabilia.

Slow Living by the Seaside

This family retreat in Devon, England, designed by Pernille Lind, blends Georgian townhouse charm with a modern seaside aesthetic. The home, which spans two levels, uses a mix of traditional and contemporary styles, creating a peaceful sanctuary for social gatherings. A glass partition allows for uninterrupted sea views, while natural materials like wood, stone, and textiles create a serene atmosphere. The carefully curated interiors, featuring warm oak floors and soft colour tones, reflect the surrounding coastal landscape, embodying slow living with elegance and functionality.
