Gia Kramer, cook and owner of Gia’s Kitchen, shares a few new ideas to eat avocado. There are a surprising number of things you can do with this creamy green fruit.

A wonderful ingredient for salad dressing

One of the greatest aspects of avocados is to add creaminess to dishes. For a creamy salad dressing, put your oil and vinegar in a blender and add chopped avocado to give it its unique creamy texture. Blend these three ingredients until everything is smooth. You could also add some fresh herbs to the dressing.

A great addition to seafood

Seafood and avocado are one of the best food matches when it comes to delicious flavours. The creamy avocado brings out the sweetness in all fish dishes, especially shellfish. This duo also fits nicely with Mediterranean diets and the best part is that both ingredients are easy to find at supermarkets.

Add them to your hotdogs

This might seem a little odd, but adding a few sliced avocados to your hotdog is actually one of the best things you can do. The avocado slices will not only fill you up even more but it also makes for a meal that is twice as delicious compared to the usual hotdog. So, the next time you have some friends or family over, surprise them with this special ingredient and watch them ask for more every time. If you really want to impress them, toast the buns beforehand, then add a few slices of crispy bacon, and top it off with some jalapeno sauce. You’ll never eat hotdogs the ordinary way again.

Grill it

Next time you’re braaing with the family, split some avocados, brush them with a little oil and put them on the grill for a few minutes. Once they’re warmed up, add them as a side to the rest of the food you’ve prepared.

Try something new for breakfast

If you’re tired of the usual eggs and toast for breakfast, why not try and spice it up by getting avocado in the mix? Slice up and pit an avocado, put the halves in a baking dish and crack an egg into each half. Warm up the oven to 230°C and bake for 10 minutes. Once that’s finished, enjoy your new and improved breakfast.

Try it in some dessert

As you know by now, avocado is a great component in several dishes which can be served for breakfast, lunch and supper. But did you know that it is also a great addition to desserts like chocolate mousse and brownies? The rich creaminess provided by the avo makes it an important ingredient in a dessert dish. So, next time you feel like cooking up a yummy dessert, keep avocado in mind.
