Let’s be honest, figuring out what ingredients to buy or what to cook can feel overwhelming at times. If you’ve had a long day or week, the idea of having to put your best Bon Appetit impression to make a meal is a lot to handle. However, no one wants to live off smoothies and takeout alone. Thankfully, there are a few local meal subscription and dinner kits that are here to help. We’ve rounded up some selections who deliver around the country, and it makes a great gift for a loved one.

Daily Dish

According to the official website, Daily Dish is a dinner box company. They offer weekly, pre-portioned dinner boxes delivered to your door, in order to help you conveniently cook fresh, easy weekday dishes for your family, while limiting waste and maximizing nutrition. It’s a subscription-based service that you can easily opt in and out of. You choose your plan or menu, from carb-conscious to family meals (amongst a few other options). From there you can swap your meal ideas and choose your delivery options. Do note, they currently only deliver to Gauteng and the Western Cape.

Founded by chefs with extensive culinary experience, Dinnerbox is all about crafting homecooked food that feels wholesome. The key feature is that all meals are made fresh, frozen and ready to heat when you need to tuck in. Choose from a variety of box meal options, from everyday meals to breakfast boxes. Dinnerbox also caters to a host of food sensitivities, from vegan to vegetarian, gluten/lactose/dairy-free - there’s something for everyone.

Plated Convenience

Available nationwide, Plated Convenience is another frozen meal provider using high quality ingredients to provide customers with a multitude of options for meal time. You can choose from packages (ideal for those who want to try Banting or other specialised eating plans) or customise your own meal plan. Alternatively, you can just order a few individual meals on offer via the website.
