If you happened to be on social media feeds late last year, chances are you saw the viral butter board trend taking over foodie accounts. In short, the butter board was a new-ish way of doing a charcuterie board, swapping out meats and the like for butter. Brooklyn-based cook and creator, Justine Doiron (aka @justine_snacks), was responsible for the recipe going viral.

At the time, her TikTok about the recipe idea amassed over 8 million views and counting. But it’s not stopped. Social media, especially TikTok, is known for amping up the trend cycle and creating this micro-trends that last for a couple of weeks at most but dominate headlines.

Content creator, cookbook author and food stylist, Meg Quinn shared her own take on the trend and showcasing the butter candle. And it definitely garnered attention, with her Instagram reel hitting over 7 million views alone.

According to Meg’s official website, her goal is to elevate the way we entertain and inspire others to have fun in the kitchen. The aim of the candle is to position it in a crispy loaf of bread and have melted butter to dip your loaf into. It’s been a bit controversial, as most trends are, with people being for it and others being completely against it.

However, whether you try it or not, there’s something to be said about unleashing your own creativity in the kitchen this year (candles not included!)
