Ellen DeGeneres is looking to expand her real-estate reach in the Southern California area yet again, this time snapping up a Balinese-style mansion in Montecito, Calif., for a cool $27 million. The 8.24-acre property was originally listed for $40 million a year ago before being cut down to a $35 million asking price—so, in a sense, DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi got quite a deal.

The 8,188-square-foot main home is comprised of five bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, all decked out in a Bali-style luxe aesthetic, featuring such building materials as bamboo for the ceilings, flamed black limestone, and distressed oak floors. The entryway features an entire wall of glass that gives visitors a glimpse into the home, while the cavernous great room (with a thatched bamboo ceiling) features its own wall of glass sliders that open out onto the backyard veranda, complete with fire pit and an outdoor dining area. Elsewhere on the main floor is a major chef’s kitchen with an oversize center island doubling as both seating and storage area. A den area lined on two full walls with bookshelves for knickknacks and reading material provides a cozy respite.

The bedrooms are also stunning, with high ceilings and glass sliders opening out onto the property's outdoor spaces. The master suite offers up a generous walk-in closet and spacious bathroom, with unique mirrors floating before walls of windows.

In addition to the main home, there is also a guesthouse with its own two en suite bedrooms and kitchen, as well as a detached office and a private cabana with a gym and changing facilities. Out back, in addition to the veranda and the dining area, there is a lush green lawn that leads out toward a one-of-a-kind basalt pebble infinity pool overlooking the Pacific Ocean. To sweeten the deal even more, an entirely undeveloped separate parcel is included in the estate, ideal for building an extension of the existing property or a second home to complement the first.

Though this is DeGeneres’s first real estate purchase this calendar year, she’s made many housing moves over the last few months. In September, she and De Rossi were believed to be the new owners of a stunning architectural home located in the exclusive Trousdale Estates area of Beverly Hills. Plus, they already own a $6.7 million equestrian ranch in Montecito, as well as an $18.6 million contemporary home near Santa Barbara.
