Spending your weekend mornings at your favourite neighbourhood eatery or discovering a hidden gem that offers unique dishes and delicacies is definitely one of life’s greatest luxuries.

Each year, Condé Nast House & Garden’s sister publication, Gourmet, presents the annual winners of the Gourmet Restaurant Awards 2017. Here are three of the 2017 awards runner up restaurants for the categories, Décor & Design, Hidden Gem, and Neighbourhood Eatery, that you should make time to check out this weekend.

Décor & Design

As with Condé Nast House & Garden Sa, décor and design are vital categories for the Gourmet Restaurant Awards. Cape-Town-based Mink & Trout was the runner-up restaurant to the category’s 2017 winner, Marble, Johannesburg. This wine bar bistro and restaurant is a definite must see if you love trendy venues, unique food offerings and great wine.

Hidden Gem

The hidden gem category is reserved for the beautiful and delicious discoveries found in the most unexpected places. Last year, Mzansi, located in the Western Cape township of Langa placed second to Wolfgat, Paternoster. Mzansi serves traditional African meals and cuisine while offering a range of cultural activities that includes a live African Marimba band and even spur of the moment dance lessons.

Neighbourhood Eatery

This category is reserved for favourite neighbourhood and city restaurants their clients just can’t get enough of. Located in the leafy suburb of Parkhurst, Johannesburg, Coobs offers a seasonal selection of farm-inspired dishes and a well-balanced wine list.
