Since the age of 16, Lorna Maseko has been travelling the world. Maseko is known for becoming South Africa’s first black principal ballet dancer and her role as a presenter on Top Billing. With the near arrival of the festive season, Lorna has shared her tips to indulging in unforgettable holiday experiences this December. Check it out below.
What is the best destination to visit this December?
I haven’t quite decided what to do this December yet, but I know I want to be somewhere warm. Dubai seems like the best option because it’s close and you have the best of both worlds; sun, shopping and relaxation. Although I’ve been there before, going again would be amazing.
What is the best international destination at the moment to visit, and why?
I’ve fallen in love with London again. I absolutely love the city, in the summer of course. The excitement from when you arrive at the airport to the quality of service at hotels; it’s really lovely. I also love Hong Kong - it’s almost like all the economies of the world meet there. You can find food from around the world and shop your heart out.
Best holiday where you can enjoy great food and multiple activities to please the entire family?
I’ve been to on two cruises this year with Crystal Cruises and Cruises International and enjoyed every second of them. What I love the most was the fact that I didn’t have to change hotels or flights, but went to multiple countries and cities. The convenience is amazing and the food experience is phenomenal. On one of their ships they have a Nobu, so you can imagine where I had dinner every night.

Favourite local culinary experience?
I love DW Eleven 13. I enjoy Martinus’ ethos on food as it’s really a labour of love.
Best local summer activity?
I enjoy picnics and food markets. Being an absolute foodie and keeping my palate excited is one of my favorite things to do all year round.

Favourite local hidden gem?
Magoebaskloof is gorgeous. I drove down there a few weeks back and literally got out of my car to take pictures. South Africa is a beautiful country and I think people should explore before travelling abroad. We have a gem of a country and continent that has so much to offer.
