Funniest Travel Story

Its actually more heart-breaking than anything. In July, (two months ago), I travelled to London to visit my childhood friend Dale. I’ve also got a promoter friend in London, Tokello was like “we’re hitting London clubs everyday till you leave.” Being the trooper that I am, we went out the very same Friday night after I just landed and spent a few days back-to-back hitting the London club scene. On my last night in London, Tokello invited me one last jol and I went back to the house to nap. I set an alarm before I slept in hopes that I’ll make it out. When I woke up my body was like “no you are not gonna make it” and I call him and cancel.

The next morning I wake up to find pictures all over social media of my friend Tokello hanging with Michael B Jordan. It was painful. I missed out on an opportunity to hang out with Michael B Jordan, after having met him briefly in New York earlier this year.

Fast forward to three weeks later I’m back in New York on a business trip. Another friend is invites me out on one of the nights and again, I decided to take a nap. This time I wake up in time to get to the club; BUT I decide to cancel at the last minute. The following day I learn that Michael B Jordan was at THAT very same club too. So yet again I leave with a broken heart. So, in the space of three weeks, I could’ve met Michael B Jordan; twice. I mean by now we could be BFF’s but no, I have to settle on him being my celeb crush, it’s so sad.

My all-time favourite vacation

Girls Trip – Four-city trip with my girls in 2013. There were six of us and we travelled to the US. We did three days in L.A, three in Los Vegas, five days in New York and five days in Miami. We had an amazing time. We fought, shopped, got drunk together and just bonded. You need that with your girls sometimes.

Must pack items

A charger for your phone, adapter because people take that for granted; you are travelling all over the world, chargers are different, a power bank a bag weigh. All you have to do is weigh your suitcase before you get to the airport, it helps with a lot of inconveniences like unpacking your bag because its overweight when you are at the airport. The US is very straight with luggage weight, the charge like $100 for overweight luggage, imagine!

Travel Motto

Arrive early at the airport. Throw caution to the wind – by exploring the culture of the city and not just doing the typical tourist stuff, that is boring - you might as well stay at home. Do what the locals would do to truly experience a place.

Prized travel souvenir

I bought a two-piece diamond necklace on my birthday at a boutique shop in Miami. I spent my birthday there with a friend. I went to a Big Sean concert that same night as it was the last leg of his tour for the year. I got to meet Big Sean which was really awesome. That necklace was very special to me. Sadly, I lost it in December. It was the first time spending my birthday outside South Africa and now my personal gift is gone.
