Win a three-night stay at the award-winning Samara Private Game Reserve for a couple sharing valued at R25 000.

Samara Private Game Reserve is located on 70 000 acres of wilderness in the Great Karoo, offering breathtaking views over the plains of the Camdeboo. Situated approximately 270km from Port Elizabeth – the nearest commercial airport – and 53km from the nearest town of Graaff Reinet, Samara offers easy access to visitors on excellent roads.

The abundant land, which has been allowed to rest over a period of 20 years, preserves a complex and diverse ecosystem. Four vegetation biomes provide habitat for over 60 mammal species, including aardvark, Cape mountain zebra, giraffe, black and white rhino, buffalo, eland, gemsbok and cheetah to name a few. This malaria-free property is geared to accommodate families, with a team passionate about educating the youth about wildlife and conservation. Family activities include game drives, walking safaris tracking cheetah and rhino as well as picnics in the bush or on a cliff top.

The team spreads the environmental message to all who set foot on Samara. From the youngest ‘Africa novices’ working on the volunteer program, to the many local staff employed over the years, the aim is to instill a sense of wonder, love and understanding of the natural world.

As one of the largest employers in the area in one of South Africa’s poorest provinces, Samara’s proudest achievements is helping the staff realise their own dreams: putting them through further studies, nurturing their hidden talents, supporting their personal development and believing in their potential. With this in mind, Samara has set up an Education Programme, Volunteer Programme and Tracker Academy, the latter in conjunction with the SA College for Tourism in Graaff-Reinet.

Subject to local as well as international acclaim, Samara has been the recipient of numerous awards – for its conservation efforts, the beauty of its landscapes, and its hospitality.

The accommodation is in keeping with a traditional Karoo-style farmhouse, with various options to suit guests’ needs. The Lodge Suites in The Karoo Lodge and standalone Karoo Suites can accommodate families of up to 5. The exclusive-use Manor House has four rooms, accommodating larger groups or families and can be booked exclusively.
