A bedroom often functions as more than a place of utility. You may spend hours laying your head upon your pillow and resting, but for many of us, the space is more than just a place to recharge before the hurly-burly of the day.

A bedroom should be a place of peace and relaxation – a sanctuary away from the world. As you evolve, so too may your taste and, as such, your bedroom. If you’re looking for a way to update your bedroom to make it look significantly more expensive on a budget, we have six must-see tips for you.

1. Refurbish/update your hardware

@thefliphut 1-DAY FLIP CHALLENGE 💥⚒️😵‍💫 I got inspired by a fellow flipper I love, @designsbymckay, who wanted to prove you could do fast flips with good quality! I picked this chest of drawers up from Facebook marketplace for $30 in the morning and had it listed back on Facebook marketplace the next morning getting over $200 for it! This piece was a true glam makeover, I went away with the nursery blue battered paint and replaced it with a super modern “blackboard” color by Magnolia Homes. I wanted to do something different with the drawers so I stapled on rolled burlap and edged it with this gorgeous natural pine plank. After some sleek black hardware she was back in business! Comment your thoughts on how this 24 hour flip came out! ⚒️❤️🫶![CDATA[]]>🏻 • • • • • • • • • #furnitureflip #furnituremakeover #paintedfurniture #upcycledfurniture #furniture #furniturerestoration #upcycle #furnitureartist #homedecor #furnituredesign #diy #refinishedfurniture #vintagefurniture #vintage #chalkpaint #interiordesign #chalkpaintedfurniture #beforeandafter #furniturepainter #refurbishedfurniture #handpaintedfurniture #upcycled #upcycling #fusionmineralpaint #diyhomedecor #handpainted #paintedfurniturelove #furnitureflipper #restoredfurniture #furniturepainting ♬ I Think I Like When It Rains - WILLIS

If you’ve got older furniture pieces and do not have the budget to replace them, try and update the items to have them look classier and more suitable to the upscale aesthetic you’re trying to create. A lick of paint and replacing older drawers and cupboard handles could do wonders.

2. Add a classic throw

If you’re not by the means to update your bedding, focus on adding a statement piece throw to your bed instead. Having simple bedding and a chic smaller blanket on top will elevate your space and have it look more well put together. A gorgeous woollen throw placed carelessly on your bed could work well.

3. Use a tray for essentials

To avoid your vanity or side drawers being filled with items, add a beautiful tray to neatly pack these items away. Isolating the mess is far better than having it clutter up your entire space. Clear surfaces are key to the upscale look. Clutter is chaotic, which is what you need to avoid.

4. Add a plant or two

@seedandhome A cozy bedroom with lots of plants is a must-have 🪴![CDATA[]]>🥰 #bedroomaesthetic #bedroomdecorideas #bedroomdecor #cozybedroom #cozybedroomaesthetic #plantmomaesthetic #plantstyling #houseplantdecor #houseplants ♬ Calm Down - Rema

There is nothing that raises the atmosphere of a room more than lush greenery. You do not need to overpower your space with diverse greens you won’t be able to care for – adding one or two plants could do the trick.

5. Display your hobbies

We all have different interests and varying hobbies. Since your bedroom is your own little haven, there is absolutely nothing wrong with displaying trinkets and items that resonate with your passions. If you’re a Harry Potter fan, put your books and fanware on display. However, be careful of creating too much clutter within your room – there is a huge difference between a maximalist look and chaos.

6. Integrate statement art

Art does not need to be expensive. Find one or two statement pieces that resonate with you, and put them on display. Incorporating one of two artworks into your bedroom will give it a more sophisticated feel and make it look more upscale.
