Every October, South Africa's creative calendar finds its rhythm in two cities.
This year, Design Week South Africa returns to Johannesburg (8 – 11 October) and Cape Town (22 - 25 October), transforming galleries, studios, hotels, retailers, and public spaces into a showcase of the country's most exciting creative thinking.
Instead of existing as a single exhibition, Design Week unfolds across the cities, encouraging enthusiasts to discover new makers, revisit established names, and experience how South African design continues to evolve.
From interiors and architecture to furniture, product design, and creative collaborations, it's become one of the most anticipated moments for the industry.
The 2026 theme, The Shape of Us, invites participants to explore how heritage, identity, and innovation meet. Expect projects that reflect South Africa's layered design language – where traditional artistry meets contemporary ideas, and local stories are portrayed through materials, form, and space.
For designers, studios and brands, Design Week offers more than visibility. It's an opportunity to become part of a wider conversation about the future of South African design, connecting creative businesses with collectors, industry professionals, media, and a design-forward public.
Previous editions have also attracted international attention, reinforcing South Africa's growing influence on the global design stage.
Whether you're planning an immersive installation, wanting to unveil a new collection, or hosting a once-off creative experience, participation is open to designers, architects, interior practices, galleries, hospitality spaces, retailers, and brands with a genuine connection to design.
Applications for the 2026 edition are now open, with submissions closing on 2 August 2026.
If October's creative calendar wasn't already marked in your diary, this is a good place to start.
