The seventh edition of the Investec Cape Art Fair (ICTAF) kicked off on Friday 15 February to 17 February at the CTICC. There were more than 100 galleries that featured brilliant local and international art pieces. The fair also featured riveting and enlightening talks at the adjacent Westin Hotel, with panels that included art aficionados, curators, advisors, and critics. Topics ranged from the art of collecting to curating in the 21st century, art in the digital age, as well as value beyond the canvas—which was facilitated by (former Mail & Guardian, Arts editor), Milisuthando Bongela. This particular discussion was quite informative as it focused on how artists can earn money from their work after it's been sold.

Another highlight was local artists coming out tops with Gauteng-based artist Mongezi Ncaphayi winning the Africa First Art Prize, and Zimbabwean artist Troy Makaza, winning the Tomorrow/Today prize. Ncaphayi's art is currently at the SMAC gallery in Stellenbosch. His prize includes a two-month all-inclusive residency in Israel. Makaza's prize includes R50 000 cash and a solo exhibit at the Zeitz MOCAA.
