UMPIRE - Pedersen + Lennard’s new outdoor furniture collection launching at Cape Town Furniture Week.
Introducing: UMPIRE, a colourful outdoor collection designed to delight.
The collection will be launched at Cape Town Furniture week being held from the 15th to the 18th of February 2023. The inaugural event will bring together Cape Town’s contemporary furniture design industry to celebrate the designers, entrepreneurs and makers behind the exciting pieces being exhibited and displayed.
Pedersen + Lennard’s upcoming release was inspired by the 2022 Design Week Challenge that saw our design team push their creative capacity with only a 4-day deadline to design and produce an umpire chair for the James Fish Tennis Invitational held in Kalk Bay on the 12th of November.
In taking inspiration from the spirit of community and competition tennis tournament fosters, a celebration of play is central to the new collection.
Round armrests and gentle curves offer a sense of playfulness and give the pieces a unique silhouette. This sculptural form is accentuated by the contrasting angular taper of the legs and bold lines in the slatted seat detailing.
These distinct lines and rounded features mirror elements of the game such as the tennis ball and the court. However, our bold take brings an edge to the classic style the sport inspires.
Available in all our steel colour options, the collection is a colourful offering made to spark joy and to suit a wide range of styles.
Pedersen + Lennard will be based at Always Welcome, Heritage Square for Furniture Week’s 4-day festival with a program that invites the community to have fun and join us in celebrating.
