Olive Sprig, a shade of pastel grey-green, has been named as Colour of the Year for 2022 by global paint conglomerate PPG.

Made of a team of 30 stylists from approximately 11 different countries, the decision was made the brand’s Global Colour Forecasting Workshop which takes place annually.

The stylists all gravitated towards the notion of resilience, as well as “the need for connection and inspiration from nature.” said senior colour marketing manager, Amy Donato.

Sophisticated and soothing at once, Olive Sprig, a particular melange of gray and green tones, symbolises nature and rebirth.

“DIYers, property managers, designers, and architects are shifting away from the stark, neutral palettes of yesterday and opting for colour in all forms. Call it rebellion, but we are certainly here for the resurgence of optimistic colours to guide us into a new era of home design,” she tells AD.

Trends don’t happen overnight but rather come to fruition after years of being on the rise,” Donato says. “We always say we influence trends as much as trends influence us. In order for a trend to gain traction and initiate purchase, it must represent what we want and what we crave.”
