2023 is fast approaching, and with the New Year, often comes brand-new interior trends that the nation will be going wild for in the next few months. But, what will these be, and where should we be searching for inspiration?

Swoon, the UK’s leading online design-led furniture brand, reveals its top three surprising pairings that every home will be yearning for in 2023, to achieve a stylishly modern, on trend space that guests will be sure to envy.

Interior design is all about creating curated collections of furniture, accessories, and art, and placing it together masterfully to create a swoon-worthy display. Swoon’s expert designers are here to help you get ahead of the game and prepare your home for all that the New Year has to throw at it.

Brushed brass and boucle

Brass and boucle are both trending materials at the moment, but did you know they actually pair well together? Swoon’s experts reveal that boucle’s fleecy appearance, paired with brushed brass’ smooth, matt surface creates a chic contrast that adds visual interest and movement into any space in your abode.

Sam Baldry, Head of Design at Swoon, goes on to say, ‘Boucle has been one of my favourite textiles to trend in 2022, and I’m sure it will be around to stay into 2023 and beyond. Its heavy yet super-soft texture - popularised by Coco Chanel in the 1950’s – truly stands the test of time. To modernise the fabric and give it a contemporary edge, I love to pair it with smooth, sleek metals.’

Dark wood and neon

The second surprising pairing Swoon’s top designers have revealed is dark wooden furniture, mixed with neon lighting and accessories. Creating a distinctive dichotomy between light and dark, with the ultra-modern glow of neon filling of room, this perfect pairing establishes an aura of confidently cool sophistication in any space.

Sam shares, ‘Neon has come around on the trend rotation a few times in the last decade, but this time we are talking specifically about lighting and small pops of accessories, not entire bedspreads, or feature walls.’

Brown and khaki

Neutrals tend to come and go in and out of fashion, but these two trending tones have stood the test of time – and also happen to make a great pairing. Organic neutral tones inspired by the natural world are always a great choice when it comes to interior colour palettes, taking muse from Mother Nature’s wonders.

Sam explains, ‘Khaki’s laidback green tone transports you to a scene of serene botanicals, embracing all that nature has to give. This soothing, easy-going shade, when incorporated into a neutral space, creates a harmonious environment to mellow out in. Blending cool, iced chocolate accents with your khaki green interior truly enriches the natural atmosphere you have created, revealing a chic yet subtly styled space for you and your guests to enjoy.’
