When we think of design in a home magazine, more often than not our brains associate this with decor, interiors and architecture. While this is all true, design, in essence, runs through every single item imaginable. From the cars you drive to the food you eat, the clothes you wear or the makeup you use.

Design plays a role in virtually every aspect of our lives, whether we realise it or not. Sometimes it is subtle, but there are a multitude of things that can inspire the arrangement of an idea. Nature is always a clear one because we have no control over it, so we can always try to recreate it to reflect in our products or services. Personally, I have always loved design.

I initially chose to study architecture straight out of school, and I later changed to interior design because I knew that’s where my passion lay. However, I always knew from a young age that no matter what career path I chose, I would pick a creative industry as I found it to be my outlet. I was so excited to put this issue together because I know how many creatives are out there and how much we all love what we do. From our Insider feature honouring numerous design ideas to keep your thumb on, to our design forward homes offering new takes that push the boundaries with style and architecture.

The world of design is truly a marvellous beast and it is important to shine a spotlight on the great work our local creatives can achieve. Not only is it an important issue for design, but our gardens are also beginning to flourish as the season of summer is in full swing and Garden Day is celebrated during this time. While I may not have the greenest of fingers when it comes to my gardens, I always appreciate some beautiful blooms to adorn my home, as well as easy-going indoor plants I can manage.

So yes, this issue is filled with inspiration that I hope will encourage you to approach design with a fresh perspective. Please be sure to share your passion projects with us on social media because you never know where your ideas will take you.
