Nestled in a historic garden square in London’s St James district, this project by Los Angeles-based Two Muse Studios reimagines a Georgian floor as a hybrid between home and office. Alexa Lameiras and Katelyn Pascavis aimed to create a space where “furniture, buildings, and cities with age carry history, soul, and stories. They have already lived a lifetime and we get to help them continue that story in a way that feels relevant to today.”

A Georgian floor is reimagined as a hybrid home-office, blending history, function, and contemporary comfort

Spanning approximately 3,200 square feet / 297 square metres, the floor includes a lift lobby, reception, lounge and bar, open-plan office, powder room, and kitchen. Neutral earth tones, soft garden hues, and flashes of red — inspired by London buses — create warmth, while solid oak flooring, marble surfaces, and natural fibres such as wool, alpaca, cotton, and mohair give a tactile richness. “There’s something about the tension between a natural, aged wood and a modern chrome accent that speaks to us,” say the designers.

The reception and lounge feature layered seating, bespoke oak, marble accents, and a custom sage-green bar

Key areas are layered for function and comfort: a reception features a charred-oak and steel desk, bespoke seating, and vintage chairs; the lounge is divided into zones for casual seating, dining, and conferencing, anchored by a lacquered sage green table and custom oak-and-marble bar; the office contains a bank of six oak desks with leather tops and integrated power. Lighting is layered, combining ceiling fixtures, wall sconces, and table lamps to create a cozy, home-like atmosphere.

The designers also incorporated bespoke cabinetry, concealed doors, and functional kitchen and powder room spaces to blend seamlessly with the original Georgian mouldings. The result is a space that feels simultaneously residential, historic, and highly practical.
