From the clever use of patterns and textures to innovative design elements, the bedroom offers endless opportunities for creative expression
Material gain
The floor-to-ceiling wood cladding in this bedroom brings a warm, organic feel that effortlessly connects the interior with the natural surroundings. As JD Irpino, founder of US-based interiors company Louis & Rose, explains, 'When selecting a siding, ensure you have a quality milled product that cuts smoothly for tight joints.' This thoughtful approach to craftsmanship enhances both the aesthetic and the atmosphere, creating a harmonious blend of comfort and nature.
Such Great Heights
The extended headboard in this bedroom serves as a dramatic focal point and introduces a sense of grandeur. As interior designer Mika Durrell explains, 'It allows for a seamless integration of fabric and pattern, offering a cosy, enveloping feel that enhances the bedroom’s ambiance.' The large-scale pattern delivers a striking impact, with its colour and tonality achieving this effect gracefully. Beyond aesthetics, the headboard provides practical benefits, including added insulation, soundproofing and a soft layer for sleeping pillows, further elevating the space’s comfort and functionality.
Monotone Mood
The soothing monochrome colour palette of this bedroom, designed by design studio OSKLO, creates a serene atmosphere while proving that a neutral colour scheme doesn't have to be bland. The soft, neutral tones are complemented by varied textures such as the teddy upholstery, cotton bed linen and the tactile quality of the furniture. These textures add depth and dimension to the space and keep the design visually engaging and inviting.
Draw the Line
Stripes play a central role in this playful bedroom designed by Lucas, creating a dynamic exchange between pattern and texture. From the bold striped curtains framing the windows to the subtle striped bedding, each application offers a unique take on the pattern. The variation in stripe direction — from vertical to horizontal — adds visual interest and helps to guide the eye throughout the space.
The Great Divide
Strategically placed floor-to-ceiling curtains in an open-plan bedroom offer a peaceful sleeping area while subtly dividing the space from the bathroom and dressing room. The rich texture of the dark fabric used here complements the light, airy ambiance created by the sloped, exposed beams. The thoughtful use of materials not only enhances privacy but also allows for an elegant flow throughout the space; each zone maintains its function without compromising the room's openness and sense of tranquility.
Mirror Image
It might seem bold to mirror an entire wall in a main bedroom, but the soft, dappled texture of the antiqued glass complements this space’s gently curved ceiling, plush monochromatic furnishings and lustrous view. As Brook Quach, Design Director at Workshop/APD, points out, 'Although the massive mirror wall (at over 396cm high and 488cm wide) highlights the room’s impressive height, it also creates an intimate, dreamlike atmosphere, adding to the airy, tranquil ambiance of the space.' This harmonious design skillfully balances scale with intimacy, showcasing both form and function.
