In Hong Kong’s storied Repulse Bay, emerging designer Clement Cheng of Clement C Studio crafts a sculptural duplex defined by soft edges, tactile surfaces, and a serene balance of light and form.

Overlooking Hong Kong’s tranquil Repulse Bay, this sculptural duplex by Clement C Studio embodies serenity through soft edges, sensory tactility and curated restraint. Founded by designer Clement Cheng, the Hong Kong-based studio has become a rising name in Asia’s design scene, with clients including Malaysian actress Lin Minchen, Hong Kong model Elva Ni, and Juliana Lam, founder of INNOTIER.

Completed in just two months, this 3,500-square-foot home is a refined study in balance and flow. “Rounded corners and flowing wall panels soften movement through the home,” says Cheng. “Even thresholds — like staircase landings and corridor porches — become deliberate, inviting pauses.”

In the open kitchen and dining area, marble, glass and soft-toned timber meet sculptural lighting and a vivid abstract artwork, setting the tone for Clement C Studio’s calm yet expressive design language.

A True Sense of Flow and Balance

Throughout the duplex, marble surfaces, sculptural lighting, rounded edges and sea-inspired artworks create a soothing sense of rhythm. Generous wall space allows zen-like paintings to breathe, while subtle sculptural details, in the panelling and staircase, establish visual continuity.

The key structural archway between the dining and living areas defines the apartment’s core axis, connecting spaces with effortless grace. The staircase, which links the lower living zones to the upper bedrooms, is treated as a tactile transition — part architecture, part art.

The living room’s curved sofa, textured walls and ocean-hued painting create a serene rhythm of tone and form inspired by the waves of nearby Repulse Bay.

A Modern and Warm Palette

Clement C Studio’s material palette fuses taupe, grey and bronze, bringing both modernity and warmth. Textured paint layers capture shifting light, creating a living backdrop for the owners’ sea-inspired art collection.

“Texture is at the heart of this project,” says Cheng. “Full-body travertine basins give weight to the bathrooms, their organic shapes mirroring the home’s curves.” The studio also experimented with an innovative wood-grain film finish, a first for the team and a nod to Japanese craftsmanship.  “It requires precision,” Cheng explains, “but it’s incredibly durable, resistant to humidity, UV and colour change, and achieves the look of real timber with perfect consistency.”

In the main bedroom, fluted wall panels and softly upholstered forms frame mountain and pool views, balancing modern restraint with tactile warmth.

Lighting as Sculpture

Lighting plays a starring role, treated as both function and form. A statement pendant anchors the main space, while smaller, artful fixtures trace circulation routes, casting gentle shadows that animate the textured walls. “Lighting shapes emotion,” says Cheng. “It gives form to the quiet moments.”

A sculptural staircase with illuminated steps and brass detailing links the duplex levels, while the adjoining study combines order, light and craft.

A Top Feature: The Open Bar

“The open bar is one of my favourite features,” says Cheng. “The shelves and marble top were designed and handpicked to integrate with the Poliform cabinetry — a seamless transition that adds elegance and punch.”

The dining area opens to views of Repulse Bay, its round table, sculptural pendant and glass-fronted cabinetry embodying the home’s refined sense of flow.

Layout and Functionality

The duplex opens to mountain and sea views, with its living, dining, and study spaces on the lower level and bedrooms upstairs. A sliding partition allows the study to merge with or separate from the living area as needed. The balcony and flat roof extend the living experience outdoors — another expression of the project’s emphasis on flow and calm.

Sculptural Minimalism, Asian Sensibility

Every element, from the rounded joinery to the tactile wall finishes — reinforces a sense of calm and craft. The result is a home that feels both deeply personal and universally soothing: a cocoon of modern Asian design, where balance and beauty coexist effortlessly.
