In Oral, Kazakhstan, Bright Mix demonstrates how thoughtful planning and considered design can transform a compact apartment into a home that feels spacious, functional and full of personality. Designed in 2024 by Nadira Mustafina of Fenty Design Studio, the 94-square-metre apartment focuses on efficient living without compromising on comfort or visual appeal.
The project was created around a simple but powerful idea: every square metre should work beautifully. Rather than relying on unnecessary division, the design embraces openness, natural light and a carefully balanced mix of materials to create a contemporary living environment suited to modern lifestyles.
A Light-Filled Approach To Open-Plan Living
One of the defining features of Bright Mix is the integration of the kitchen and living room into one open-plan social space. This layout creates a sense of flow, allowing daily activities, entertaining and relaxation to happen within a shared environment.
Large panoramic windows become a central architectural element, filling the apartment with natural light and enhancing the feeling of openness. The abundance of daylight highlights the carefully selected materials and helps the neutral palette feel warm rather than minimal.
A glass partition subtly separates the kitchen from the living area without interrupting the visual connection between spaces. This transparent boundary offers practicality while maintaining the apartment’s sense of continuity. The approach reflects a growing trend in contemporary apartment design: creating flexible spaces that adapt to different moments of everyday life.
Balancing Neutrals With Bold Details
The colour palette of Bright Mix is built around a calming foundation of white, grey and beige tones. These understated shades create a versatile backdrop, allowing furniture, artwork and decorative elements to introduce personality.
Rather than overwhelming the space with colour, the design uses carefully considered accents to add energy and character. Statement furniture pieces and curated artwork become focal points, bringing individuality into the otherwise refined interior.
This balance between restraint and expression gives the apartment its distinctive identity. The neutral foundation creates a feeling of calm, while the bolder elements prevent the space from feeling predictable.
The Beauty Of Material Contrasts
Material selection plays an important role in shaping the atmosphere of Bright Mix. Natural wood, glass and metal are combined to create a layered interior where each surface contributes to the overall experience.
Wood introduces warmth and softness, balancing the cooler qualities of glass and metal. These contrasting materials work together to create visual interest while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic.
Lighting also plays a key role, carefully enhancing textures, highlighting design details and creating different moods throughout the apartment. Every element has been considered to ensure the space feels both practical and personal.
Designing For Contemporary Life
The strength of Bright Mix lies in its ability to maximise a smaller footprint without making the apartment feel restricted. Through smart planning, transparent elements and a focus on natural light, the design creates the impression of a larger, more open home.
This approach is increasingly relevant as urban living continues to evolve. Contemporary interiors are moving towards spaces that are adaptable, efficient and deeply connected to the way people actually live.
A Modern Interior With Lasting Appeal
Bright Mix represents a refined approach to apartment design — one where simplicity becomes the foundation for creativity. By combining functional planning with expressive details, the project creates a home that feels current while remaining timeless.
It is a reminder that thoughtful design is not defined by size, but by how successfully a space responds to the people who inhabit it. With its open-plan layout, natural textures and carefully curated accents, Bright Mix offers a vision of contemporary living that feels bright, practical and beautifully considered.
