Drawing on the elegance of Italian design and the serenity of a coastal retreat, this modern family home feels like a private boutique resort.

A Milanese Mood on the Mediterranean Coast

Surrounded by greenery and set apart from the city, this serene family home feels more like a private boutique resort than a residence. Designed by interior architect Pazit Winer, founder of her eponymous studio and a longtime friend of the owners, the house reflects a refined synergy between Milanese sophistication and Mediterranean ease.

A sleek travertine-topped dining table anchors the space, paired with sculptural timber chairs and minimalist pendant lights that echo the home’s architectural rhythm.

Designed from the Ground Up

When the owners purchased the 200-square-metre property on the eastern Mediterranean coast, it was little more than a shell. The concrete structure offered no interior definition, leaving the layout, finishes, and flow entirely to the imagination. Working closely with Winer, the family shaped their dream home from scratch, envisioning a space where contemporary design and European refinement could coexist in calm, textural harmony.

The result is a two-level home that balances openness and intimacy. On the ground floor, expansive living areas encourage gatherings, while upstairs, private rooms offer quiet retreat. The homeowners — frequent entertainers — sought a home that felt both cosmopolitan and deeply personal, a canvas for their love of travel, art, and design.

Expansive glass doors open the living and dining areas to the garden and pool, blurring boundaries between inside and out. Earthy tones, raw textures, and natural light define the home’s calm aesthetic.

Milan Meets the Mediterranean

Winer looked to Milan for inspiration, translating the latest design sensibilities from Italy’s capital of style into a language of modern Mediterranean living. Travertine stone, one of the key materials showcased at Milan Design Week, runs fluidly across the ground floor and extends outdoors to the garden, blurring the boundary between interior and exterior spaces.

The kitchen, a focal point of the home, is a study in contrast. A dark-stained wood façade meets the crisp sheen of a monolithic stainless-steel island — a sculptural piece that captures light and shadow in equal measure. This juxtaposition of rich warmth and cool precision sets the tone for the entire interior, where each surface has been chosen for both its tactile beauty and timeless appeal.

In the bedrooms, textured wall finishes, champagne-tinted glass wardrobes, and custom joinery convey a quiet sense of luxury. Every element feels considered and bespoke, from the delicate lighting fixtures to the curated art that threads through the home. The overall impression is one of restraint and balance — a dialogue between modern comfort and European sophistication.

The dark-wood kitchen and stainless-steel island form a bold, sculptural backdrop to the living area, where soft furnishings and organic textures add warmth.

A Boutique-Hotel Allure

While the aesthetic references Milan, the atmosphere evokes the calm of a boutique resort. Large glass doors and windows open seamlessly to the garden and pool, allowing dappled light to move gently through the rooms. The travertine-clad bathrooms echo the textures of the ground floor, with oversized showers, concealed lighting, and natural finishes creating an environment that feels both indulgent and restorative.

Throughout, the palette is muted yet layered. Natural stone, dark woods, stainless steel, and soft stone-coloured fabrics create a visual rhythm that feels sophisticated but never austere. It’s a home that encourages relaxation, designed to be lived in — not merely admired.

The Art of Collaboration

This project’s soul lies in its collaboration. The friendship between Winer and the homeowner brought an openness and fluidity to the design process. “My design approach leans toward a minimalist aesthetic defined by clean lines and thoughtful organisation,” says Winer. “The owner, by contrast, is drawn to expressive colours, rich textures, and bold material combinations. The house became a balance of our worlds — structured, yet full of personality.”

That meeting of minds produced a home that feels both curated and intuitive. It carries the precision of architectural discipline while remaining deeply human — every room imbued with warmth, comfort, and individuality.

A Study in Balance

The material palette is disciplined and deliberate. Travertine marble, stainless steel, dark-stained wood, and champagne-tinted glass work together in harmony, underscored by espresso-hued aluminium and soft neutral walls. On the ground floor, travertine flows seamlessly into the garden, linking the interior with the surrounding greenery. Upstairs, parquet floors and tactile fabrics add intimacy and warmth to the private spaces.

The kitchen’s stainless-steel island acts as both anchor and statement, its polished surface catching the light while reflecting the surrounding textures. The furniture, upholstered in soft stone hues, complements the architecture without overpowering it. “Every material has a purpose,” Winer explains. “The aim was to achieve quiet richness — a feeling of depth and texture that reveals itself gradually.”

The kitchen’s marble island and dark cabinetry extend towards the garden, creating a seamless connection between the interior and the lush outdoor dining terrace.

Form, Flow and Function

The home’s layout is a balance of communal and private zones. The ground floor accommodates the social spaces — the open-plan kitchen and dining area, a light-filled family lounge, and a guest bathroom — all oriented toward the garden and pool beyond. Upstairs, the main suite offers a tranquil retreat complete with a walk-in closet and spa-like en suite, while two further bedrooms serve as inviting sanctuaries for the couple’s teenagers.

In every corner, craftsmanship and clarity prevail. Hidden lighting layers create warmth, curated art adds personality, and bespoke carpentry grounds the interiors in enduring quality. The result is a home that embodies the best of both worlds — the polished restraint of Milan and the effortless tranquility of the Mediterranean. pazit-design.com/home
