There’s just no denying that one of winter’s biggest pleasures is a warm bowl of soup. A cold night just wouldn’t be the same without it. But while we all have our go-to favourites during the colder months, there are some interesting and surprising ingredients you can add to take your soup to the next level.

Tomato soup

The tangy taste of tomato soup can chase the winter blues away in just a single mouthful! But for those looking to add just a bit more personality, try sour cream instead of regular cream for an extra bit of oomph.

Butternut soup

It’s just a fact: butternut soup is everyone’s favourite! Okay we’ll admit, maybe some people need a bit of convincing... To enhance the sweet and fragrant taste of butternut, try adding maple syrup while cooking. You’ll thank us later.

Lentil soup

Lentil soup hits the spot every time! But for many, it can become bland over time. Enhance the soup by adding smoky flavours. Smoked paprika is an excellent choice to add a bit of heat and flavour!

Vegetable soup

While it may be humble in its composition, vegetable soup is one of the tastiest (and most nutritious) winter treats. Try adding a teaspoon of curry powder for a bold and spicy take on this traditional soup.

Leek and potato soup

Creamy and easy on the palate, there are few things as comforting as this smooth and decadent soup. Try adding sweet corn and ham for a surprising mix of sweet and smoky flavours.

French onion soup

It’s a classic for a reason! French onion soup can be brought to new and exciting levels by adding shredded rotisserie chicken. And don’t worry, you can still add generous heaps of cheese on top!
