Before Netflix was around, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition had a hold on us when it came to interior decor transformation shows. Adored by millions of fans, this series really showcased interior design on a maximum scale. Fast forward to now and we really are spoilt for choice with what is on offer. We have rounded up 14 shows we think you would love to binge watch, if interior design is what you enjoy.

1. Get Organized With The Home Edit

Some may consider organizing videos oddly satisfying. Seeing the restock of a well organised pantry drawer, or the uniformity of the boxes with perfectly aligned items is what perfectionists dream of. This show follows our hosts Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin as they go and makeover celebrity cupboards to help them organize and tidy their space. They offer so many great tips and tricks we could all make use of in our own homes.

2. Interior Design Masters

Set in the UK, an aspiring group of decorators compete with one another on various challenges in hopes of kick-starting their interior design career by the end of the season. The group of amateur decorators are thrown shop fitting challenges, difficult clients, learning to work in groups and a whole lot more as they all vie for the title.

3. World’s Most Amazing Vacation Rentals

The world is truly our oyster as this series takes us through holiday rentals to suit luxury, budget and unique experiences. Follow the three hosts as they travel the world and showcase beautiful Airbnbs and holiday homes you may want to consider for your next trip, or if not for travel, perhaps as interior inspiration from across the world.

4. Dream Home Makeover

Shea and Syd McGee are a warm and loving couple that work together to transform homeowner spaces into their dream room. The couple tackle a new space every episode and always look like they are having tons of fun while doing so. The show is extremely popular as they have managed to snag 4 seasons thus far, so this is definitely one for those marathon nights.

5. Stay Here

Designer Genevieve Gorder and real estate expert Peter Lorimer travel the country to help struggling homeowners who rent out their spaces overnight. The duo help revamp the space, work on a better online profile and help put together the best way for the homeowner to make the most amount of money. This show really offers great advice from valued property to making small changes that won’t cost an arm and a leg. Stay Here will truly make you question if that additional room in your house couldn’t be turned into a viable marketing opportunity.

6. Motel Makeover

Sarah Sklash and April Brown are two hospitality entrepreneurs who invested in a motel to update the space and provide a unique experience. The series follows them as they deal with the makeover while the pandemic hits. From under time to over budget, the series is a great show for decor inspiration, especially if you love the colour pink.

7. Instant Dream Home

24 Hours is all this team gets to take a family home and transform it into their dream home. With the help of the community rallying together, Instant Dream Home is a feel-good series that is all about rewarding those families that are their for everyone else. It gives the old-school feels Extreme Home Makeover without the extravagant build and overpriced maintenance.

8. Buy My House

This show is a mix of Shark Tank and Dragon’s Den in which investors consider offering deals to homeowners that are urgently needing to sell. The homeowner stipulates the price and the investors negotiate an offer that would work best for those involved. The investors come with years of realtor knowledge as the homes are showcased and we learn what to look for in homes when it comes to buying and selling.

9. Made By Design

Focusing on the experts in Africa, Made by Design follows the architects, interior designers and other creatives as they share their stories to success. Every episode focuses on an individual and their journey, the trials and tribulations they faced along with their amazing design ideas they have developed. It really is inspiring seeing someone chase their dream and offers mountains of motivation to go after your own goals.

10. Amazing Interiors

Expect the unexpected with this television series, ‘Amazing Interiors.’ The homes are never what they appear to be on the outside. You step into a world where nothing is too crazy for some of these home owners. From indoor waterfalls to excessive luxury, shear grandeur and over-the-top ideas, the extraordinary interiors offer a perfect contrast to its ordinary exterior.

11. Tidying Up With Marie Kondo

The tidying expert Marie Kondo has one mission - ‘to spark joy in the world through tidying.’ Follow the expert as she travels to different families, assisting them with decluttering their home to live a simpler and tidier life. From her excellent organization hacks to the her emotional connection with the family, Marie imparts her knowledge to help transform their lives and create a clearer space.

12. Instant Hotel

Australian homeowners take part in this Airbnb competition that follows the group around as they experience each other’s space. The guests are asked to rate their stay and the contestants with the highest ratings therefore win. It’s a great show to draw inspiration from if you are thinking of turning your space into an Airbnb yourself. Besides the stay, it’s all about the overall user experience, the area and value for money.

13. Tiny House Nation

Practical, highly compact and easily transported across the country, Tiny House Nation is a movement that has taken over to push families to live more sustainably. This show focuses on families who are looking to downscale their life, declutter their home and live with only what is needed. Not only are the families becoming more sustainable, but are also more conscious of their living situations with how much space do we actually need. A great show to offer some perspective if you were considering downscaling your life.

14. Designing Miami

Eilyn and Ray Jimenez are the interior design power couple of Miami, taking on design projects one by one. The show follows their married lives coupled with their own design businesses as they compete in the same industry. Design driven with a mix of reality television, this series offers love, laughs and some great design ideas.
