1. Goodbye to open plan

While the open plan living situation served us well for many years, the change in our work and home life brought about during the pandemic has had us re-zoning our spaces a bit more to define clear rooms with clear functions. These clear boundaries in our home environment allow us to decompress within ourselves and certainly make living with others a little easier.

2. Boucle fabric

Similar to the velvet era that had a hold on everyone a few years ago, the boucle fabric choice seems to be heading down this path. While, we are not completely sick of this fabric choice, it is a good idea to vary the textures in your home. A boucle couch is a statement piece on its own without the added boucle cushions, ottomans and rugs. An overkill of the fabric will lead it to feel dated very quickly.

3. All grey everything

Grey has always been seen as a neutral colour choice for those who were not into white or any tone of beige. The colour grey allowed for a new neutral, but is quickly becoming cold and clinical when used in every piece of furniture. from the wall paint to curtains, the headboard, rug and blankets, in this case too much grey is not pleasant. Even if used in varying shades and textures, grey cannot appear warm and therefore comes across as an impersonal space. Grey is still a great accent colour, just be sure to use it sparingly.

4. Fast furniture

As sustainability continues to rise, fast furniture continues to fall. Buyers are no longer looking at trendy and cheaply made pieces, but rather opting for the vintage approach or an easy DIY for themselves to do. To create a more eco-friendly future, it is important that we keep pushing more mindful purchases that not only support the environment, but our local community too!

5. Classic farmhouse

While the farmhouse design aesthetic is still rather popular, this classic style in its pure farmhouse-being is not. With ‘live, love, peace’ signs plastered across the walls and barn doors, the white wood furniture mixed with wooden floors and fake flowers to decorate the room, this style appears dated when all these elements are thrown together. We don’t anticipate this design aesthetic to completely disappear, but the style is evolving and being incorporated with more contemporary elements.
