This October, Noordhoek will once again open its garden gates to the public for the 11th annual Open Gardens weekend - a vibrant two-day celebration of flora, creativity, and community connection.
Taking place on 18 and 19 October 2025, the event offers visitors the rare opportunity to explore 11 diverse and inspiring gardens nestled in the scenic Noordhoek valley. From manicured masterpieces to wild indigenous havens, each garden reflects the unique character of its creator - and the rich biodiversity of the Cape floral kingdom.
But Noordhoek Open Gardens is about more than just blooms and beauty. At its heart lies a deeply rooted purpose: to support On the Verge, a grassroots greening initiative started by local resident and event organiser Kathy Fish.
Inspired by roadside gardens she saw on a drive through Robertson, Fish founded On the Verge 16 years ago to transform Noordhoek’s neglected public spaces. Today, the group has created 34 roadside gardens, planted hundreds of trees, and tackled invasive alien species - all with a small team and a big vision.
Every ticket sold during the Open Gardens weekend directly funds this mission, helping ensure Noordhoek’s streets and verges remain as breathtaking as its private spaces. If you've spotted a "We are on the verge today" sign on a Wednesday, you’ve seen the team in action - digging, pruning, and planting for the greater good.
The weekend also thrives on community involvement, with local Scouts and Girl Guides volunteering at each garden entrance to manage tickets and welcome guests. Their presence underscores the event’s spirit of intergenerational cooperation and local pride.
Now a beloved annual tradition, Noordhoek Open Gardens continues to draw locals and visitors alike. It’s not just about strolling through exquisite gardens - it’s about supporting a living legacy of sustainability, collaboration, and care for the environment.
So bring your walking shoes, a curious spirit, and a love for nature. With every visit, you’re helping grow something truly beautiful - for today and for generations to come.
