Main bedrooms that include sitting areas, dressing rooms, spa bathrooms and access to an outdoor atrium are the ultimate sanctuaries. This room is a self-contained abode, much like a five-star hotel’s presidential suite with mirrored chandeliers, fringed shades, glam fabrics, glossy screens and classic furnishings.

The Design Elements

Here, decorative laser-cut screens facilitate semi-privacy, while supporting a vanity table and bathing area. Contact Enzo Coppola for options that will work in your space. Sumptuous, deep-button velvet ottomans in the bathroom dressing area provide ample seating. Achieve this look with a similar ottoman from Wunders. A variety of velvet fabrics can be found at Hertex Fabrics. Daybeds on either side of the fireplace can be found at La Grange Interiors and for a similar table, try Cécile & Boyd. A thick, plush carpet from Mae Artisan Rugs or Paco is essential.

2. Clever Compact Kids Cabin

With precise cabinetry and multifunctional zones, this tiny space can become a versatile domain. Alcoves and nooks, flush panels and simple fittings, block colours and subdued tones – combined with a crafty imagination and clever carpentry – have turned this room into a surprisingly desirable combination of lounge, study and bedroom.

Great Design Ideas

Given the high level of technical skill required to engineer a savvy space like this, we recommend you hire an expert to map out the room and indicate where individual elements will fit in. Try a kitchen designer, such as Beth Gillitt, or interior designer, such as Michele Throssell, to help you achieve something similar. For various flooring options, opt for Oggie Hardwood Flooring or BestWood Flooring. When it comes to upholstery fabric,  U&G Fabrics is an affordable choice with many materials and colourways to choose from.

3. Contemporary Masculine Suite

Defined by a full-height headboard that separates the bed and bathroom, this bedroom exudes a masculine energy. This theme needs to be layered but not cluttered while the elemental texture of the furnishings should hold your interest. This is evident here in warm, angular timber, black-lacquered wood and metal, smudgy cement-screed flooring and silver and grey stainless steel, concrete and stone – their large surfaces all creating an entirely modernist aesthetic.

Design Finishes

Marry clean lines with a functional approach to create a strong impact. Here, the timber headboard supports the sleek single-drawer sidetables and floating concrete vanity slab, which can be found at Caesarstone, as well as the stainless-steel basin and illuminated mirror — both of which are available at Italtile. The headboard can be replicated using timber suppliers Forest Flooring. The bed itself, with unusual double bolsters and a woven corduroy slip cover, is styled more like a large daybed to maximise the masculinity of the space. On the other side, the bathroom is a big wet room — the rock seating bringing in an all-natural material while also providing a perch. Go to Stone & Bark for your pick. Taps and basins such as these can be found at Flush Bathroom Interiors.

4. Classical Suite

A large, light-filled bedroom with meticulous open cabinetry facing the bed with access in recess to the bathroom and dresser, makes it feel like a living room. The neatly packed built-in bookshelves allow for emphasis on the soft, unfussy comforts in the space.

The Comfort Elements

Select the perfect velvety bedding from Linen House. For paint in gentle hues, try Dulux’s wide variety of colours. These multifunctional white-lacquered cupboards create a family of style and colour while accommodating bookshelves, a television and cupboards on the other side in the dressing room.

5. The Home Hotel Suite

Luxe, compact and hardworking, this bedroom by interior designer Mumtaz Dasoo is elegant and contemporary with a boutique-hotel feel. Here the intention is to create a relax-and-work space without feeling like one overshadows the other. This is achieved by cleverly incorporating understated furnishings, homely features and luxury comforts. The space is practical but romantic. In this room, soft tones are used but a colour punch is added in the occasional Maxalto tub chair from M Square Lifestyle Necessities, while opulence imbues from the sheen wallpaper and sleek fabrics – from St Leger & Viney.
